So, I've noticed that REI Outlet has had this pack on sale for anywhere from $120 -$135 lately, and it's normally a $260 pack.

I've been trying to find a place that has one physically in stock, so I can look at it, hold it, check the seams, kick it around, etc, but I've had no luck. Seems the only place you can get it is online. I've been pretty wary of buying things like packs online, but that's quite a deal.

I'd probably use it as a loaner pack since most of my friends are mooches who don't have their own gear. I have a Kelty Pacific Crest that I'm going to use until it falls apart on me, so I don't really see myself using this new pack unless for whatever reason the Kelty is too small

My question is, has anybody used/bought this pack and, if so, what's your opinion of it? Is it worth it? I don't really care about weight (particularly since I won't be carrying this pack), but I am big on reliability

so, I cracked and bought it - it seemed like too big a deal to pass up. Came in the mail yesterday...

Actually, it's pretty good. Seems like it's constructed rather sturdily - the waist belt feels much more comfortable than my Kelty Pacific Crest's, it's got lots of room, easy access... I like it. The waist belt is a bit large though - I'm sure there's a strap I missed to tighten it, but it seems like it's definitely built for larger people in mind... something I didn't know ahead of time.

Oh well, I'm gonna keep using my Kelty and let my mooch friends use this one anyways, so they can deal. It's good enough for that, at least.

Anyways, if you're looking for a decent cheap pack, I'd recommend it.

Philip, it isn't a bad beginner pack. However, what I failed to notice until I got it was that it was meant for larger people. I had to do some creative sewing on the waistband to get it to fit.

That said, it's a pretty good pack. Enough room to go on real long trips, but light enough for any shorter trip you feel like
