Good dayhikes in Redding, CAView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
Anyone? “I am planning to overnight in the tent trailer around the Redding, CA area and wanted to know if anyone had: a) any good suggestions of places to car camp; and b) any good dayhike info for places that have wildflowers. I have some guidebooks but thought I would hit up the peeps here first. Thanks. RM.” 10:04:06 AM 3/30/09 “Old Station.” 11:52:58 AM 3/30/09 “I assume you've done the Shasta/Lassen thing and are looking for other areas?” 12:03:57 PM 3/30/09 “Car camping?? Sacre bleu!! What, like ya got a kid or something?” 12:11:12 PM 3/30/09 “Yeah, I shoulda mentioned, I will be doing this with a 9 m.o., so summiting Shasta is OUT (done it a couple of times, too). Lassen Park isn't open yet... Where and what is Old Station?” 12:50:09 PM 3/30/09 “Hee-hee !!” 1:28:33 PM 3/30/09 “How about Castle Crags? That's a nice hike with good views and less than 6 miles R/T.” 2:39:38 PM 3/30/09 “That is a good suggestion, Kleetn. I have never done it. Thanks.” 2:50:21 PM 3/30/09 “Only thing is, it's a little steep. trail is nice and wide, but it gains like 2000' in the 3 miles.” 2:59:47 PM 3/30/09 “Old Station is east of Redding at the junction of 44 and 89. Beautiful area with creeks running year round with cold, clear water, fishing, camping, etc. Snow still I am sure. No flowers yet I'll bet too. West of Old Station about 5-7 miles is a campground called Big Pine or Pine something. Turn down there, go past the CG if that isn't your thing and you can park close to the creek a half mile or so past it on a dirt road. I took my motorcycle down there about five years ago, only a few other souls around. If you are going real soon, the roads may be snowed in still. A great slice of CA.” 7:12:21 PM 3/30/09
