I just saw a film of the play by Gary Carden on South Carolina ETV ("Southern Lens").

Wow ----

I'd love to see it live.... "The Prince of Dark Corners"

SYNOPSIS
At the time of his capture in 1881, Lewis Redmond was the most famous
outlaw in the country, outshining contemporaries Billy-The-Kid and Jesse
James. In the lean and hopeless years of Reconstruction, he maintained an
extensive bootleg operation that ran through North Georgia, upstate South
Carolina, and Western North Carolina. To the people of Southern Appalachia
he became an American Robin Hood, fighting revenuers and using moonshine
profits to save peoples land. When he shot and killed a childhood friend who
had become a federal marshal, the years of narrow escapes and daring deeds
that followed made Redmond the most notorious outlaw in America. While
Northern papers depicted him as a degenerate and cold-blooded murderer, he
retained a reputation for honesty and generosity. Though he was eventually
shot and captured, no one would have predicted the fate that awaited, one
which deprived him of his rightful position in the annals of American folklore.
His recovered story sheds light on a time and place that has long been
shrouded in mystery. Milton Higgins delivers a tour de force as Major Lewis
Richard Redmond in Gary Cardens masterwork of Appalachian identity, The
Prince of Dark Corners
.

Criminal good, law and order bad. A lot of substance abusers think this way.

Obviously for Tilt, murder is okay if it helps the poor.

That's the first time I've heard of that place or that person as a hero and not a murderer. That entire area was once known for people "disappearing."

LOL..Liberals always honor criminals not understanding that the law must exist to protect them more than the law abiding.

A lot of substance abusers think this way.

Three weeds are the criminals; poppy, coca and marijuana. By throwing them in jail you have destroyed a great countries judicial system.

sounds like a cool play - back then there was always a very fine line between "good guy" and "bad guy"

Right, murdering federal marshals is such a gray moral area.

It's also a window on post Civil War history and the backwoods of North Georgia and the North Carolina mountains.

To some telling a story is construed as approval of the conduct of the characters in the story.

That sort of attitude reflects a pettiness.

There is a lot of interesting history in the backwoods and mountains of Appalachia and a sense of mortality in that era that few of us understand.

Oh, you mean how the DEMOCRAT party SUPPORTED SLAVERY and the republicans fought them and ended that horrible practice?

GOTCHA! Thanks for the reminder

It sounds like nothing new has happened in Arkansas since 1862.
