100-Mile Wilderness Ultra RunView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
Crew peeps needed! “Hey everyone, just wanted to get something started and feel things out a bit. One of our fellow B'Packers, Chowdahead, is looking to organize an informal, "Fat Ass", event on the 100 Mile Wilderness section of the AT, in Maine. No date is set yet, but likely in August or September of this year. He's seeing what kind of interest there is in a) running, or b) crewing (most importantly!). I'm not quite at the 100-Miler point of my ultrarunning career, so I will most likely not be one of the runners! I am therefore looking to get some really awesome people interested in crewing for this little shindig. Obviously, more details to follow, but it would involve getting to Maine, camping out a few days at a couple key points so we can get water and food to the runners when they come through, and then at the end of each day (if it's a 2 to 3-day stage run) we'll all camp out, tell war stories from the trail and just kick it! Then do it all again the next day until we're finished. Definitely some hiking will be required in order to get to certain points...but I don't think that's an issue in this forum :) So, does that sound enticing to anyone??? All runners would be responsible for bringing whatever they need and then crew people would just haul it from one point to the next and help address any issues that arise on the trail, maybe a couple could serve as sweeps. Ham radio guys/gals would be awesome as well. Very loose plans right now, but I just wanted to see if there's any interest out there before getting into hardcore planning mode :) Thanks! As Paige suggested, we're looking at sometime in Sept most likely (I'm attempting the VT100 in late July). I believe there are more than a few road crossings where we could meet up and set up camp along the way. If you want to join for a section, that's cool too. This will be a low key event with some laid back ultra runners / hikers. More to follow, but any suggestions as to how best to break this 100 miles up, would be appreciated. Any suggested resources for planning would be appreciated as well. Hope to see some of you on the trails. I'm now officially a Vermonter :)” 6:54:12 PM 4/03/09 “Not sure what you are looking for in the way of resources. You might find take a look at some of the northeast hiking boards like: www.viewsfromthetop.com www.rocksontop.com www.amcoutdoors.org www.alpinezone.com (in addition to northeast region boards of places like backpacker.com)`” 6:28:13 PM 4/05/09 “If you want, I'll post something on VFTT or ROT.” 7:09:43 PM 4/05/09 “Sure, that would be great, thanks!” 7:51:51 AM 4/06/09 “What contact info should I give, or should I have them contact me and then give them the contact info?” 11:21:33 AM 4/06/09 “Wish I could help. When you get done you can come out west where the real mountains are and do this one: http://www.mattmahoney.net/nolans14/ They ran this race 3 times before anybody finished it. Then it was outlawed by the Forest Service. Back now in a less official format.” 6:58:49 AM 4/07/09 Contact Info “Pedxing, Sorry, I just saw your message. You can give them my e-mail: susanpaige1@hotmail.com. I can then forward it on to the right people.” 10:56:18 AM 4/07/09 3:03:51 PM 4/07/09 “I'm getting a few inquiries about: 1) Any attempt to get sponsors? 2) More specifics on dates? 3) More specific on pace?” 8:30:46 PM 4/09/09
