Media finds proof tea parties are racist

The media was giddy to find out that 89% of tea party members are white, which is apparently supposed to mean that tea party members are racist.

This is somewhat out of whack with a Gallup poll that showed the tea parties were 79% white, from just last week.

But, either way, which stat is most important to keep in mind when looking at these polls?

75% of Americans are white.

That means the expected racial makeup of any random group meeting in America would be 75% white. An alternative headline for this story would be “Poll Shows Tea Party Members are Slightly More Likely to be White than the General Population”. Oh, the horrors.

But why? Why is it that tea parties feature slightly more whiteys? Could it be the 95% approval rating among African-Americans that the President currently enjoys?

Are we really supposed to be surprised that a group of people who universally approve of the president–don’t go to rallies showing disapproval of the president? If you need to go to the racist attack to figure that one out, you probably already work in the media.

Oregon Teacher Panel Probes Educator Determined to 'Demolish' Tea Party

By Jana Winter

- FOXNews.com

A middle school teacher in Oregon who announced his intention "to dismantle and demolish the Tea Party" on his "Crash the Tea Party" Web site is under investigation by his state's Teacher Standards & Practices Commission.

Teacher Jason Levin is under investigation after his "Crash the Tea Party" Web site called on supporters to infiltrate anti government protests.

A middle school teacher in Oregon who announced his intention "to dismantle and demolish the Tea Party" on his "Crash the Tea Party" Web site is under investigation by his state's Teacher Standards & Practices Commission.

The investigation by Oregon's teacher licensing agency comes in response to a public outcry over Jason Levin's public statements that he'll do anything short of throwing rocks to bring down the Tea Party.

Levin, the media teacher at Conestoga Middle School in Beaverton, is the leader of a group that says it wants to infiltrate and bring down the loosely organized anti-big-government Tea Party movement.

He has said he would seek to embarrass Tea Partiers by attending their rallies dressed as Adolf Hitler, carrying signs bearing racist, sexist and anti-gay epithets, and acting as offensively as possible — anything short of throwing punches.

His school district is defending his right to free speech, but it's investigating whether he used district computers to spread his political message or worked on his Web site during school hours.

In a recent interview with Talking Points Memo, Levin said of his plans, “Our goal is that whenever a Tea Partier says 'Barack Obama was not born in America,' we're going be right there next to them saying, 'Yeah, in fact he wasn't born on Earth! He's an alien!'"

In a now deleted post on his “Crash the Tea Party” Web site, Levin called on his supporters to collect the Social Security numbers — among other personal identifying information — about as many Tea Party supporters as possible at the numerous rallies scheduled to take place on Thursday – Tax Day.

“Some other thoughts are to ask people at the rally to sign a petition renouncing socialism. See just how much info you can get from these folks (name address, DOB, Social Security #). The more data we can mine from the Tea Partiers, the more mayhem we can cause with it!!!!” he wrote.

The state agency is investigating whether this is a hint at identity theft, and whether it is appropriate behavior for a public school teacher. It also will investigate charges that Levin used school computers during school hours to work on his Web site. Levin works at Conestoga Middle School's media lab and teaches 6th, 7th and 8th graders about computers and technology.

According to the school district laws regulating teacher conduct, which are posted online: “The Beavertown School District rules involving teacher use of the district’s electronic system clearly state: The district's electronic communications system shall be used for educational purposes consistent with the district's mission, priorities and beliefs. Educational purposes do not include commercial use, use for personal financial gain or political advocacy.”

The investigation will be assigned to a case agent who will compile a preliminary report that will be presented before the commission. The commission members will then decide whether to charge Levin with misconduct or dismiss the case due to insufficient evidence, said Melody Hanson, the director of professional practices.

There are numerous factors that are weighed when considering disciplinary sanctions under state law, including:

--Whether the conduct was notorious or had negative effects on the public image of the school (public image could be an issue of contention in Beavertown, which was named the “Best Place to Raise Your Kids” in Oregon by Businessweek);

--the educator’s past performance;

--whether there was damage to students, other educators or the public;

--the likelihood of a recurrence of the conduct;

-- whether there is a danger that students will imitate the teacher’s behavior.

The earliest Levin’s case could be considered would be in August, since the commission meets only four times a year.

The Beaverton School District also is conducting an internal investigation to look into Levin's use of "work time and district equipment, and any other relevant issues," Maureen Wheeler, the district's public information officer, told FoxNews.com.

On Tuesday morning, the school district sent out a district-wide “media advisory” in which it declared its support of Levin. It described the teacher as a “leader of an anti-tea party organization” and called the controversy surrounding him a matter of free speech that should not be discussed with members of the press.

“What this teacher does in his private time is his private personal business. So when he’s not in school, that’s his personal time and there’s just not a lot we can do. This is an issue of free speech,” Wheeler told FoxNews.com on Tuesday.

The school district superintendent and several school board members deferred all questions to Wheeler.

From tea party supporter Jodine White of Rocklin, California, trying to explain how she reconciles her desire for smaller government with her support for Social Security:

Thats a conundrum, isnt it? I dont know what to say. Maybe I dont want smaller government. I guess I want smaller government and my Social Security. I didnt look at it from the perspective of losing things I need. I think Ive changed my mind.

GE: 7,000 tax returns, $0 U.S. tax bill
By Annalyn Censky, April 16,

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Electric filed more than 7,000 income tax returns in hundreds of global jurisdictions last year, but when push came to shove, the company owed the U.S. government a whopping bill of $0.

How'd it pull off that trick? By losing lots of money.

Tax bills for 5 corporate giants
The 2009 income tax bills for America's biggest companies ranged from $0 to $15 billion. Here's why.
View photos

GE had plenty of earnings last year -- just not in the United States. For tax purposes, the company's U.S. operations lost $408 million, while its international businesses netted a $10.8 billion profit.

That left GE (GE, Fortune 500) with no U.S. profit left for Uncle Sam to tax. Corporations typically face a 35% federal income tax on their earnings. Thanks to its deductions and adjustments, GE reported an actual U.S. federal income tax rate of negative 10.5%. It got to add a "tax benefit" of $1.1 billion back into its reported earnings.

"This is the first time in at least decades that GE has reported negative U.S. pretax income and it reflects the worst economy since the Great Depression," Anne Eisele, GE's director of financial communications, said via e-mail.

But what about the $10.8 billion profit overseas? GE is "indefinitely" deferring income tax payments on those profits, Eisele said.

It may seem like accounting magic, but it's completely legit.

GE isn't the only "Top 5" company on this year's Fortune 500 list that owed no income taxes. Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500), which suffered major losses in 2009, included a tax benefit of $1.9 billion in its annual profit.

"That's one way of escaping taxes," said Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation. "Companies get to deduct their losses, so if there's no earnings, then they pay no income tax."

But GE isn't exactly escaping all tax-related pain: The company paid almost $23 billion in taxes to governments around the world from 2000 to 2009, Eisele said.

Plus, paying the accountants to crank out 7,000 tax returns can't be cheap.

And then there's all the lawyers needed to defend those returns. GE filed tax paperwork in more than 250 jurisdictions around the world last year. "We are under examination or engaged in tax litigation in many of these jurisdictions," the company dryly notes in its annual report.

GE may not owe the IRS, but it still has to file -- and its filings are epic.

In 2006, as the IRS ramped up its corporate e-filing program, the tax agency actually issued a celebratory press release when it processed GE's tax return. On paper, the return -- the nation's largest -- would have totaled a massive 24,000 pages. But instead, the IRS was able to upload the 237 MB document in under an hour.

Reading it, though, is apparently taking a bit longer. The IRS is currently auditing GE's tax returns for 2003-2007. To top of page

Absolutely correct, salebored!

We need to create more government agencies!

What we need to do is create a Department of Commerce to enforce standards that business will live by.

Then we’ll create a National Credit Union Administration to make sure no abuses happen in credit unions.

Then we’ll create a Commodity Credit Corporation to oversee the stability of farm prices.

Then we’ll create a Commodity Futures Trading Commission to prohibit fraud in futures trading.

Then we’ll create an Employment and Training Administration to train ethical people for jobs.

Then we’ll create a Federal Trade Commission to ensure businesses act responsibly through regulation.

Then we’ll create a United States International Trade Commission to enforce fair trade practices.

Then we’ll create a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to pay depositors just in case banks don’t act responsibly.

By golly we’ll even create a Securities and Exchange Commission to look after our interests as consumers.

Then we’ll create a Department of Justice to deter business abusers.

While we’re at it, why don’t we create a Postal Regulatory Commission, United States Postal Inspection Service, and an Office of the Inspector General to oversee the U.S. Postal Service. They seem to be in desperate need of oversight.

And if all those government bureaucrats can't do the job, we'll just keep creating more agencies and more regulations! That will fix the problem!

Just be sure those agencies are staffed by industry insiders who will be guaranteed high paying gigs once they leave government, provided they don't actually do any regulating, and all will work out fine.

Isn't that the way it already works, V? Or are government bureaucrats just receiving charitable business donations?

Lawyers in congress have it set up where they land great private jobs after getting fired for screwing the citizens.

It's a sweet deal to have job security, two incomes, and hefty retirement benefits that get paid by... us.

I propose a new branch of government. We already have the executive, legislative, and judicial. Let’s have an economic branch. That way we can lump these existing agencies into one neat knew organizational structure. Plus, we have the added benefit of freeing up space within the other branches for further growth.
