Gosh that's funny, MarkO. Knowing you to be a truly altruistic guy, can you help me out with this one:

http://www.nationalreview.com/nrof_bartlett/bartlett200401190849.asp

Barlett quotes The Nation:

“As Cockburn writes, "Hitler, genocidal monster that he was, was also the first practicing Keynesian leader…”

Barlett quotes the Journal of Political Economy:

“…German economists in the early 1930s were well aware of Keynes's work, and were developing theories along parallel lines.”

Barlett quotes Explorations in Economic History:

“…German fiscal policy stopped being restrictive and turned "Keynesian" as soon as Hitler took power.”

Barlett quotes economist Joan Robinson:

“In a lecture to the American Economic Association's annual meeting in 1971, economist Joan Robinson, a close colleague of Keynes, said, "Hitler had already found how to cure unemployment before Keynes had finished explaining why it occurred."

Barlett quotes economist John Kenneth Galbraith:

“…Hitler "was the true protagonist of the Keynesian ideas."

Barlett quotes Keynes:

"the theory of output as a whole, which is what the following book purports to provide, is much more easily adapted to the conditions of a totalitarian state, than…under conditions of free competition and a large measure of laissez-faire."

But his defense of Keynes is based on:

“In my view, such criticism is completely wrong. Keynes was very anticommunist.”

OK, so he understands, as do you and I, that Fascism and Communism are both leftist systems, but he says that it’s wrong to call Keynes a Fascist because he disagreed with some of the consequences of Communism?

MarkO. how do you and I explain this? And let’s not tell Keynesian Krugman what Barlett says at the end of his article:

“Of course, there is much in Keynes's work to criticize. Many of the economic problems of the post-war era result from it.”

Because Krugman is likely to blow a gasket, and seek revenge, like he does whenever he is criticized. And we certainly don’t want to upset a dysfunctional egotist like Krugman.

It may also upset all those Orwellian history academics who have tried to convince people that FDR’s Keynesian policies got us out of The Great Depression. Thank God none of us here is that gullible.

Gosh, we’ll really have some reading to do won’t we:

“There is some debate as to whether Nazi economists had adopted what would be referred to as Keynesian economic theory by reading John Maynard Keynes or if they had concluded independently of Keynes that direct state intervention in monetary matters could bring about full employment and bring an end to a recessionary business cycle. Whatever the origins, Nazi economic thinking found much to its liking in Keynesian economics.”

How’s that change working for you? Did you change your nice red shirt for a brown one yet?

"OK, so he understands, as do you and I, that Fascism and Communism are both leftist systems...."

NO, fascism is on the right along the lines of ultra-nationalism/corporatism and communism is on the left.
I've understood the two to be polar opposites and neither can be considered "liberal".

Here's one dictionary definition....

fascism

noun
a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism)

Thanks for setting me straight there MarkO. It’s so much better when I can get my education from listening to your opinion rather than reading those boring economics books.

Now that I understand, I wonder why the common sense of believing the Nazis were for smaller government, less business regulation, and less centralized government, escaped me. Of course the Nazis believed in “conservative” right-wing philosophy. What was I thinking?

Only someone who is narrow-minded, uneducated, and dogmatic can’t see the common sense in that.

I sure would look like a fool repeating a lie.

Dictionary definition of liberalism: An economic theory in favor of Laissez fare, free markets, and the gold standard.

I’m not implying you’re dense, MarkO. I have no doubt you’ve seen me post the dictionary definition of liberalism before. I just had to remind myself...

...But, looking at your definition of Fascism, you must have typed something wrong. Because something doesn't seem right-wing here.

So CNN says this:

"Conservatives borrowed a page from President Obama's Web-savvy style..."
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/15/tea.parties/

But then ABC says this:

"At the White House Tuesday, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he wasn't sure if Obama was aware of the tea parties..."
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=7337117&page=2

Obama is “web savvy” but the White House Press Secretary doesn’t know if Obama has a clue about these nation-wide tea parties? All the major networks have reported the story and it’s all over the web.

Well which is it? Is Obama “web savvy” or clueless? Maybe he’s just been busy practicing in front of the teleprompter trying not to look wooden.

It’s a shame that we keep getting doofus presidents. DIDO (doofus in...doofus out).

Do you think Scaife et al. got their money's worth?

It looks like they're paying Dick Armey over $700,000 a year.

I can see why he's pissed.... 3% of $728,000 is $21,840.

If you'd rather pay more taxes (or have future generations pay, plus interest) than have the top tax bracket go back to where it was before.... that's fine. Take out your checkbook and write a big one to the people who bankrolled this. They can be found through the "Scaife et al" link above.

Texas governor says secession possible
Posted: 09:03 AM ET

Perry didn't rule out Texas may one day secede from the nation.

(CNN) Texas Gov. Rick Perry isn't ruling out the possibility his state may one day secede from the nation.

Speaking to an energetic and angry tea party crowd in Austin Wednesday evening, the Lone Star State governor suggested secession may happen in the future should the federal government not change its fiscal polices.

Maybe one of you big freaking "patriots" can tell us what the penalty for treason is these days.

I may run for president of Texas, Norris wrote in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. That need may be a reality sooner than we think.

I think it's fine if Texas wants to secede. Just stop all the work on the security wall between Texas and Mexico and make sure they return the billions in stimulus money.

Hmmm, we may want to move that security wall to keep the Texans out of the US.
