I prefer personal choice on weapons. Sadly there are people (some on this board) who may not be able to handle the responsibility of having a firearm.

Years ago one of my liberal friends bragged he kept a "toy gun" to scare bad people off. While he recognized the need for protection he was uncomfortable with the thought of having to hurt of kill someone. I understand that and if they are unwilling to take the responsibility for using lethal force a weapon in their hands would be worthless.

LAKELAND, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy ran through a garage to escape his family's slaughter at the hands of his father, who then took his own life on their front lawn, authorities said.

Investigators were still searching for a motive for the slayings late Sunday. They said Troy Ryan Bellar, 34, shot and killed his wife, Wendy Bellar, 31, and two young sons before killing himself outside their home in Lakeland, located between Tampa and Orlando.

Wendy Bellar tried to leave the home with two of the children after a fight with her husband, Polk County Sheriff's Department spokesman Scott Wilder said in a statement.

But Troy Bellar opened fire with a 7.62 mm rifle and killed his wife, 5-month-old Zack James Bellar and 8-year-old Ryan Patrick Bellar in the front porch area.

ROTFLMAO

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/58455

A nationwide review by The Associated Press found that over the last two years, 24 states, mostly in the South and West, have passed 47 new laws loosening gun restrictions.

Among other things, legislatures have allowed firearms to be carried in cars, made it illegal to ask job candidates whether they own a gun, and expanded agreements that make permits to carry handguns in one state valid in another

Man shot dead after trying to rob Marrero couple at gunpoint

December 13, 2009, 11:16AM
A man who attempted to rob a Marrero couple at gunpoint Saturday night died after one of the robbery victims, who was armed, shot him, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The man was reported shot in the chest at 34 Azalea Court around 8 p.m. He was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, said Col. John Fortunato, JPSO spokesman.

Investigators learned that the man was one of three male suspects who tried to rob the couple as they were walking from their driveway to their home. But the male robbery victim was also armed and shot the perpetrator, while the other two suspects fled on foot, Fortunato said.

The identity of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of family.
