Looking for a good hike in the Washingto n DC area.

“I'll be up in the Washington DC for a week in about a month -- the whole family is going - so I am thinking I will need one day to just get out and do some solo hiking?

Any suggestions for any trails not too far from the area?”

“someone said Catoctin SP, that is another good spot if you're looking for something not so difficult and closerby. Even closer is Great Falls National Park on the Potomac River.”

“Arlington Cemetery. I could spend an entire day there alond - not to mention the Museum of Natural History (not much "hiking" there, tho...).

Catoctin Mountain state park looks like the tourist dayhike sort of place.. prolly would not be my favorite.

The other two are both about 2hrs in the same direction.. might get up early and make a long day of it.
