Its time to bag some knobs again and do some boulder-hopping in my favorite part of West Virginia.

Hey-ull yes!

You can head out Sunday by way of Roaring Plains Trail to The Pipeline and three miles on FR 70. Though it is wicked rocky in places, there are no significant grades on the plateau.

I found those on GOOGLE Images looking for "Porte Crayon".

It seems that somebody left some junk at the bench mark on Porte Crayon.

I plan to pick up Sunny early Friday.

Coco, you might be able to get a camp site at Red Creek Campground on Thursday night. That is five miles up FR 75. Getting a site for the weekend would be just about impossible.

Hey MarkO thats a good idea, I'll probably stay there if it's not full.

I think there's also a small site just in off the trailhead and another about 1/4 mile in.

Bad news. I need to bail. I have some illness in the family, and travellers diarrhea hit my bank acct while in Honduras. I have a chance to stop the outflow if I work July 4th. So sorry, I was looking forward to showing off my new tarptent. It performed marvelously in Honduras--kept me dry and bug free in some intense storms.

Sorry we won't be seeing you Sunny
I was looking forward to checking out your tarp and home dried foods!

We'll be heading down this afternoon and probably staying at Red Creek campground tonight.
Meetup tomorrow mid-morning will be either at the trailhead or If I'm not there, up the South Prong trail a mile or so at the campsite where the hidden passage starts.

OK

From there we should be able to make it all the way along The Rim Trail to the camp site on the edge of Roaring Plains.

We could push on to Haystack if there is enough daylight.

I found an old refrigerator out on that Rim Trail Friday evening.

Roaring Plains is always a nice adventure.

Ours' was a bit wet and the nights were rather cool....................coolest Fourth Of July I ever had.

It was nice to see everyone again, well except for Sticks, we heard that you were seen in the area, but we never caught up with you, sorry!

It was the coolest 4th of July trip I've ever been on. The weather can be tough up on the plains. The hidden passage is still a mystery, although we did follow the first half, lots of overgrown trails, saw some nice campsites along the way, and even had some nice views of Green and Haystack Mtns. I have some pics to put up later this week.

I couldn't find the Hidden Passage this time although I had hiked it four years ago and several times before that.

Tis a mystery.............

Hey Sticks, I hope you enjoyed your hike and made it home OK!

Another party had seen "the guy from Kentucky with the black dog" but we somehow missed you in the mist.

I pieced together a good weekend. I grabbed the wrong print out. I did one in portrait and it cut off the first two turns...sort of crucial. Oh well I had a great hike and an excellent fire on Saturday. Friday I did some serious bushwhacking and was exhausted and in the sack by 8.

I knew the group was going in your area but they did not seem too keen on having me tag along so I did not press the issue. I saw them coming back into camp and the women looked like they were on last legs...the guy with no hair wasn't doing too well either. They said they saw my friend...what did ya'll do...morph?!
