You can head out Sunday by way of Roaring Plains Trail to The Pipeline and three miles on FR 70. Though it is wicked rocky in places, there are no significant grades on the plateau.” 6:22:12 AM 5/07/09 “yeah, i've covered that turf before.” 6:46:39 AM 5/07/09 “Let's do a job on those knobs.” 6:26:36 AM 5/14/09 “you mean Knob Job!” 2:42:49 PM 5/14/09 “ ![]() ![]() 5:06:11 AM 6/01/09 “I know those aren't your photos! The spruce does look nice though” 9:28:56 AM 6/01/09 “I found those on GOOGLE Images looking for "Porte Crayon". It seems that somebody left some junk at the bench mark on Porte Crayon.” 9:31:50 AM 6/01/09 “ There's No Name Knob at 4,651. There lies the bushwhack.” 9:34:11 AM 6/01/09 “http://lh6.ggpht.com/_xc2YnObVk4A/RrJrnA6DzsI/AAAAAAAABFM/d01w12iviwk/DSC03729.JPG Close up of Porte Crayon (4770') from the Boulder Field - 5-27-2007 Canyon Rim Trail, Monongahela National Forest, Pendleton County, WV http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xc2YnObVk4A/RrJrnQ6DztI/AAAAAAAABFU/ZYnPJRMeV-o/DSC03728.JPG Porte Crayon (4770') from the Boulder Field - 5-27-2007 Canyon Rim Trail, Monongahela National Forest, Pendleton County, WV” 9:40:26 AM 6/01/09 “That damned elusive.............Boulder Field!” 9:51:05 AM 6/01/09 “Bad links.... Fridge knows about that boulder field.....” 12:53:21 PM 6/01/09 “Those links work for me....... Hey Coco, I hope my trekking poles find a nice home.” 12:58:45 PM 6/01/09 “the links don't work for me” 3:09:47 PM 6/01/09 “OK dude, then you will have to just go there and see what it looks like.” 4:47:14 AM 6/02/09 “My knee is doing better, looking forward to seeing you guys. Marko or Coco--up for a carpool? I leave next week for Honduras so will be out of touch for a while, back on the 27th.” 11:54:10 AM 6/11/09 “Si, we give you ride! He will be contacting you by phone. Jackstraw will give him the number.” 1:38:37 PM 6/28/09 “What about Timberjack and Wolfstraw?” 5:14:04 AM 6/29/09 “Can't...gotta work” 6:13:47 AM 6/29/09 “Oh........................OK!” 6:18:20 AM 6/29/09 “Hey all, gonna be a short week at work, I'm ready to head back down to ole WV. MarkO are you and Sunny Dayze riding down on Friday morning? I'm leaning towards taking a 1/2 day on Thursday, Picking Christine up in Philly at 1PM and headin on down. Anyone else planning to arrive Thursday evening? Fridge you coming? I was going to bring some of that cider you like last edited: 6/29/09 6:31:11 AM” 6:38:20 AM 6/29/09 The Plains last September “I plan to pick up Sunny early Friday. Coco, you might be able to get a camp site at Red Creek Campground on Thursday night. That is five miles up FR 75. Getting a site for the weekend would be just about impossible.” 6:50:37 AM 6/29/09 “Hey MarkO thats a good idea, I'll probably stay there if it's not full. I think there's also a small site just in off the trailhead and another about 1/4 mile in. 6:30:04 AM 6/30/09 “The weather is lookin' good!” 7:12:03 AM 6/30/09 “Bringin the Geetar?” 9:32:10 AM 6/30/09 “Yes !! That stupid lookin' thing sat in a closet for a few years........but it ain't bad for the trail.” 9:45:43 AM 6/30/09 “Bad news. I need to bail. I have some illness in the family, and travellers diarrhea hit my bank acct while in Honduras. I have a chance to stop the outflow if I work July 4th. So sorry, I was looking forward to showing off my new tarptent. It performed marvelously in Honduras--kept me dry and bug free in some intense storms.” 6:23:36 PM 6/30/09 “Sorry we won't be seeing you Sunny I was looking forward to checking out your tarp and home dried foods! We'll be heading down this afternoon and probably staying at Red Creek campground tonight. Meetup tomorrow mid-morning will be either at the trailhead or If I'm not there, up the South Prong trail a mile or so at the campsite where the hidden passage starts.” 6:33:28 AM 7/02/09 “OK From there we should be able to make it all the way along The Rim Trail to the camp site on the edge of Roaring Plains. We could push on to Haystack if there is enough daylight. last edited: 7/02/09 9:53:04 AM” 10:05:29 AM 7/02/09 “Problems at work yesterday...I'm outta here about a 6 hour drive.” 1:24:44 AM 7/03/09 “Have a great time guys! Wish I could go, hugs to all!” 3:03:05 AM 7/03/09 “one bad ass trip....Canyon rim Trail is a GEM. Hidden passage is a total secret and the views are breathtaking. Pics comming soon.” 3:02:21 PM 7/05/09 “I found an old refrigerator out on that Rim Trail Friday evening. Roaring Plains is always a nice adventure. Ours' was a bit wet and the nights were rather cool....................coolest Fourth Of July I ever had.” 2:19:52 PM 7/06/09 “It was nice to see everyone again, well except for Sticks, we heard that you were seen in the area, but we never caught up with you, sorry! It was the coolest 4th of July trip I've ever been on. The weather can be tough up on the plains. The hidden passage is still a mystery, although we did follow the first half, lots of overgrown trails, saw some nice campsites along the way, and even had some nice views of Green and Haystack Mtns. I have some pics to put up later this week.” 6:29:15 AM 7/07/09 “I couldn't find the Hidden Passage this time although I had hiked it four years ago and several times before that. Tis a mystery............. Hey Sticks, I hope you enjoyed your hike and made it home OK! Another party had seen "the guy from Kentucky with the black dog" but we somehow missed you in the mist.” 6:37:41 AM 7/07/09 “hehehe” 2:11:35 PM 7/07/09 “I pieced together a good weekend. I grabbed the wrong print out. I did one in portrait and it cut off the first two turns...sort of crucial. Oh well I had a great hike and an excellent fire on Saturday. Friday I did some serious bushwhacking and was exhausted and in the sack by 8. I knew the group was going in your area but they did not seem too keen on having me tag along so I did not press the issue. I saw them coming back into camp and the women looked like they were on last legs...the guy with no hair wasn't doing too well either. They said they saw my friend...what did ya'll do...morph?!” 7:39:35 PM 7/07/09 “That was a rather brutal day hike they took.” 5:28:35 AM 7/08/09 “How comes I no see no peektures?” 2:43:04 PM 7/08/09 ““That was a rather brutal day hike they took.” I have to agree. Roaring Plains can kick butt.” 4:24:48 PM 7/08/09 “You must axe Cocohead and Fridgy about pictures.” 4:32:30 AM 7/09/09 “Sticks, if you had day hiked with that party you would have walked right through our camp site.” 5:01:53 AM 7/09/09 “hehehe” 1:59:28 PM 7/09/09 << back to Deam Wilderness page
