Basically this is my first hiking/backpacking trip to Arkansas and/or Missouri.

I've got a copy of Johnny Molloy's book.

There is also Tim Ernst for a resource.

Arkansas / Missouri TTer's -- what are your recommendations..

First of all, if I were going to hike in Arkansas, I would throw Johnny's book in the scrap heap (no offense Johnny) and I would rely on Ernst's books.

Secondly, it depends on what you want. There are several great hikes in Arkansas, but if you want a "one time" shot at a hike, I would say Hurricane Wilderness or Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas or Irish Wilderness in Missouri.

No go for me. I will be hiking up there the weekend before this on the OHT.

Secondly, a mid week hike just doesn't work for me too often.

mid week?.. did i put the dates in wrong?

11/20 is a Friday.. 11/23 is a Monday.. just a long 4 day weekend.

Yeah.. that's why I posted it here.. to get some feedback.. so I can do some planning.

I've always driven to east TN, or NC, or GA.. I figured it was time to drive west for a change.

I must have looked at it wrong. I thought it was October dates.

When is Thanksgiving?

I am going to try to talk stikmon into doing a Thanksgiving hike/float again this year in the Irish Wilderness/11 Point area.

I'll send marc an email.

By the way, i liked Johnny's book.. but I totally understand the criticism.. it's written like a "falcon press" book..

I hope you have better luck than I have had getting him to do something. Being in business for yourself is very demanding.

Stikmon made this suggestion.

Tom Sauk Mtn State Park to Johnson's Shut in State Park

He said it was 12 miles and a great hike. Anyone else hiked it?

Irish Wilderness???????
Chilli,

I'd be interested in heading for the Eleven Point River Thanksgiving if you guys are going to hike the section of the Irish Wilderness that intersects the river. We did that a few years back and had a good time even if it did rain. I think a half dozen backpacked and 7 or 8 canoed or kayaked. I'm sure we can get Dutch Oven Dave interested and this time I'll bring a Dutch Oven or two in my canoe.

Give err some thought....Moz

You guys grab Ewker and Pat and bring em...

What is the status on this trip?

My mother is coming to spend a week with us during Thanksgiving, so I am a weak maybe, but if it is doable, I might be able to squeeze it in.

Alternatively, I might try an overnighter in South Mississippi on this weekend.

I might be in for something at Thanksgiving... Lets face it, probably not, knowing my record. LOL... But I am looking to do something then. Might just be something way more local. Short on funds and outta vacation (meaning it's nonpaid if off then)....

Sounds like a great southern trip. Wow it is on the weekend that I work. Every trip is on one of the two weekends a month that I work not the two that I am off. You all hate me.
