I try to use as few stakes as I can get away with for sand camping. I usually can get away with only using a deadman for my vestibule. Sometimes rather than use a deadman, I just tie the vestibule cord to a heavy cooler.

I've had to get up at 3 AM to tie my tent down during a windstorm before.”

“WELL first of all Hyway, its BUCKY to you. Secondly, I've been really lucky and to my knowledge I've never been caught out in a lightening storm while hiking or camping. Now there was this one time wehre I may have slept through it..but I believe we just had rain that night.”

I can't upload the pic ...bleh. Its supposed to be Bucky Katt from the comic strip "Get Fuzzy" Tater renamed me after the Roan Mtn Trip last September....He ran across a comic strip of Bucky laying "pointy side up"..(i.e. claws out) and apparently thought that fit me.

“Well, my reservation has been confirmed so the date is now in stone. I am thinking of buying this screen tent. Its 30' X 30' this would be awesome at traildays too :)

“What the hell, Saturday is my birthday, so I bought it. It was only $88 but damn that 42 lbs will be a load. I need to build a small beach buggy to roll it and the rest of my stuff to the site”

Assuming by some maricle I do actually get to go on this trip, in all honesty, how far do we gotta walk in the sand and what sorta footwear is recommended for carrying a backpack in the sand? Is it going to be more of a trek...or what?”

“its 1/2 mile over a paved (or hardened) path. then just a few hundred yards to the campsite. I plan on using wheels to get it to the end of the solid path then carrying my stuff in several trips the rest of the way if the sands turns out to be too tough for teh wheels. besides its only 42 pounds, I have backpacked many miles with more than that on my back.”

“When I first started backpacking my daughters barely carried anything and all of our gear was very heavy. A 45 pound pack was standard. I even carried a 60 lb pack once when we packed up in a rain storm. I can't say I enjoyed it, but I did what I had to do to get out there.”

“Savannah and I set it up in about 20 minutes from the time the UPS man handed it to me till I drove the last stake. next time shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. The bottom has a 8" strip of material that can be buried in the sand or just laid flat on the ground. I'm going out today to find some battery operated string lights to hang inside it :)”
