What about all the poor tentless bare chested men? We have room for them too. I mean, lets not discriminate.

You men are awfully proud of your tent size. Maybe this could become a tent "throwdown". I volunteer to be a judge.

Is is tent size or how you pitch it that matters?

My tent ain't that big, but I can put it in places a big tent can't go.

Gentlemen...although size is somewhat important it's what is done with it after the erection. Storing gear, sleeping, etc.

My tent has gone through rain, hail, and 60 mph wind and it has never lost it's erection. Even though it was shaking violently and whipping back and forth and the walls were extending in and out like it was going to explode at any second, it never went limp on me.

So I was feeling brave today and went out shopping for a bathing suit for this upcoming shindig. I haven't worn one in years cuz...well, I just didn't want to scare the horses. But since I lost some weight, I thought - what the heck. Go try on a few. Live a little.

I should have stayed home!!

My plan is thousands of sit ups between now and then, rewarding myself every 25 or so with a nice cold one!

That should work nicely. I'll give that a try.

Do we really need bathing suits?

The website for the park said "no nude bathing except for anyone over 6 years old" Wait....maybe I read that wrong.

After 6pm the only people on the island are campers and rangers. The last time I was there I didn't see a lot of the rangers.

I wonder if the rangers use night vision.

I've always believed if you throw a party, invite the neighbors first. Maybe the rangers are friendly?

So you're saying we'd have to hide in tents because of bugs?

I'd like to go. I'll have to see if the people that own me have other plans.

I have this lightweight beach cart. If you can take a rolling cooler on the ferry why couldn't we take this rolling cart with the cooler on it as well as tent and other gear.
It travels very well on just about all terrains.

I don't know, maybe if it had straps on it and you could carry it on. I don't work there so I don't know what they will accept and what they won't.

Maybe I'll call the park office. But it does sounds pretty clear. Limit what I take. Hmmmm....beer or bathing suit? I do hate tan lines.

Just spoke with the park office. If it has wheels it must fit under the ferry benches and be small, like 12 pack size. Larger coolers are allowed but must be carried on. AND she stressed....absolutely no beer. Hywy....do they search things?

If you have a sled, use it.

A kids plastic sled is lightweight and will work in sand.

It's not as easy as gliding downhill, but it beats making 5 trips to get stuff from the staging area.

So everything will have to fit on our backs and in a cooler. Hmmmmm

They didn't search my stuff when we went over. I think it will be a matter of how crowded the boat is. If you are taking the late boats they probably won't have many people going to the island so you'll have plenty of room to put your stuff down. here is a pic where is don't see the driver making anyone store stuff under the seat.

Looks a lot like going to Cumberland Island..."
~Treeb

Huh? Did you see any maritime forest in that view from the Goodyear blimp? Holey moley! That place looks HOT!

Oh yeah - this'll be an opportunity to collect baby loggerheads as they hatch.
Goooooood times!
;)

Note:
The Cumby ferry personnel will bring things from the mainland, ie, ice, beverages, ammunition, etc - for a nominal fee (tip), of course.

Any idea about this ferry outfit?

BTW -
the above pic shows nothing but rich retirees and their Eastern European-bought child slaves. What? No Panama City Beach-like action going on there? BEACH BABES, BAYBEEEE!

This looks interesting. And I'm all for the "less is more" mentality I'm sensing here :)

In fact, I've been battling these pesky tan lines for three years now. Problem is, the lines had a 48 year headstart. Plus, they keep the lead by the fact that I spend alot of time outdoors in my shorts and no shirt.

Hmmmm...
Just did a quick look-see around the net. Not too far at all from here (ATLish). Dogs are okay, with the usual leash, poop, noise, etc, stipulations. The rack is still atop the Mighty Mighty Tacoma, and my brother's Starcraft is still beached at his pond - oars at the ready in my storage building.

I'm going now to get a look-see at the NOAA tide charts...
