2 person tent HELP FAST!!!!View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 25 of 25 messages posted.
“Long story short my Swiss Gear idk model tent that used the Trekking pole crapped out on me. (In a wind storm pole shot through the top of the tent). Got a lot of use out of this budget tent (every night for 2 months last summer alone). Now I'm on the hunt for a replacement on the cheep. Needs: Cheep Two man plus gear Cheep Value(quality for price) Would be nice: Vestibule Light last edited: 5/30/09 10:22:51 PM” 10:21:43 PM 5/30/09 “On the cheap I have had good luck with my coleman 2 man but there's not much for a vestibule. It's not exactly UL either @ about 6lbs w poles & tarp, but works well in the rain.” 10:28:58 PM 5/30/09 “Oh BTW my idea of cheep is the $50-$100 mark.” 10:39:33 PM 5/30/09 “Question about the Eureka Apex 2xt vs. the Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2XTA? Is the difference in materials worth the extra $$$? they seem to be the same tent!!!” 11:20:37 PM 5/30/09 “make it easy on us eh? post links.” 2:33:30 AM 5/31/09 “The Pinnacle Pass has aluminum poles vs. fiberglass and is about a pound lighter. I'd get it the Pinnacle.” 3:04:11 AM 5/31/09 “http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28103 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___27436 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___27437 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___35842 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28224 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___36275 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___20134 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28319 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___36274 http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___29556” 5:15:50 AM 5/31/09 “wow i was hunting all over campmor and didn't find that many options thanks!!! Any more suggestions?” 6:35:52 AM 5/31/09 “You da man, Fridge. You got kids tents in there. Did you look at that list? I've been dry on rainy nights in Kelty Tetragons and Coleman Sun Domes, but I don't take them backpacking - as a rule. I took my kids in a Coleman and once when a buddy's tent was inadequate. The cheapest 2-man backpacking tents at Campmor are the Kelty Grand Mesa & Teton, which are made for lovers, and the Eureka Pinnacle Pass, which would be more comfortable for two dudes but has no real vestibules. If you can go $169 there are a bunch of really good 2-person backpacking tents that will last so many years you'll forget about the extra $70. There are too many options to settle for something over 5 lbs.” 10:16:16 AM 5/31/09 “Seaeagle.. I have the Apex.. I have used it for back packing with my son.. Good tent, my only regret is the demi vs the ull vestibule.. I also have 3 Eureka Getaway 2's. Picked them up onslae for $25.. GREAT SCOUT TENTS. Not real good for backpacking, as it has a canvas bottom.. NO vestibule, but that's we carry trash bags... Also, look at their tetragon series (below)... I have the tetregon nine, and people love it..(I used to let families with no equipment borrow it until they got equipment). http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28224 Finally, (am i really going to say this).. check out teh Dick's Flyer on Sunday.. I have gotten some decent off brand tents their, real cheap.. '32oz” 3:17:02 PM 5/31/09 “steepandcheap is the place to get them” 6:24:17 PM 5/31/09 “I could swing the extra if its worth it. I'm just cheep as they come. Any suggestions in the new price range of 169? Just seach campmor or what?” 7:17:48 PM 5/31/09 “Basically here is the issue I am finding. I have little to no experience with a nice tent. I am used to going to the general merchandise store and looking over their selection and picking the one I like best. With the selections that I have here its overwhelming. Tents, hammocks, tarps, and bivouacs. I don't plan on solo trips any time soon so hammocks and bivys are kind of out. Any potential hiking partner of mine are not to keen on UL. So after much thought and consideration I ask you to narrow down the selection of under $200 tents that will best. Vestibules are nice. Durability a must. Little to no condensation is preferred. Relatively light weight is a necessity. The ability to set up the footprint and fly would be icing on the cake.” 9:17:58 PM 5/31/09 “not interested in ultra light? so i guess you're only car camping then?” 9:40:32 PM 5/31/09 “I can't personally testify, but the ones that caught my eye were the Marmot Limelight, Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2 XTA, Kelty Gunnison 2.1, The North Face Rock is a good tent I've seen in action - hard to believe it's a pound and a half heavier than some of these others. The SD Clip Flashlight and TNF Tadpole are classics that have been around for a long time. I'd want a full fly, a decent vestibule and light weight for that much, otherwise you may as well go with a Tetragon. Do you have a local store like REI or some high-end place where you can crawl around inside some of these? That would give you the best idea of what's right for you.” 10:32:02 AM 6/01/09 “I thought this guy needed help fast? This thread is running on two days now.” 10:34:44 AM 6/01/09 ““Question about the Eureka Apex 2xt vs. the Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2XTA? Is the difference in materials worth the extra $$$? they seem to be the same tent!!!” seaeagle I have the 3XT and love it” 11:11:52 AM 6/01/09 “dizzy- I am interested in backpacking but I was making a comment that my Girlfriend is not quite as into tarp shelters (YET!) toejam- Thanks that is just what I was talking about. I don't have a place close enough. stovie- I need to purchase this tent before I head out to camp. I'm a councilor and need it for the overnight. I'm heading out in two days. Strad00d- Thanks I really like the tent a lot. I like the apex 2xt i had a chance to crawl around inside one at Dicks.” 12:43:58 PM 6/01/09 “Just teaseing. ;-)” 12:46:42 PM 6/01/09 “Just an update I just pulled the trigger on a Eureka Autumn Wind at a great deal. Thank you for all of your help. Its heavy yes but when I really liked the design when I was at the store and it just showed up on steepandcheap what can i say lucked out!” 10:22:36 PM 6/01/09 “how heavy?” 1:55:32 AM 6/02/09 “A bit heaver then i would have liked 5lbs 9oz. I'm going to be using this particular tent for scouting functions a Canoe trip along with possibly some backpacking. If i were to do some serious backpacking trip I would have to find another alternative.” 8:53:04 AM 6/03/09 9:45:39 AM 6/03/09 “what beast 32 oz? not like i have a choice now!” 8:41:42 PM 6/03/09 “i just picked this one up for under a $100 @ Dicks. ![]() http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28502 i'm very satisfied.” 7:44:54 PM 6/04/09
