(CNN) -- Authorities in New Mexico are searching for a rescue helicopter that went missing shortly after it picked up a lost hiker in the Santa Fe National Forest.

Two National Guard helicopters were sent to the area to look for the missing chopper but a low cloud ceiling and rain was limiting the search early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The chopper, a New Mexico Police helicopter, had been dispatched to pick up a lost hiker Tuesday night, said Peter Olson, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.

A pilot and a spotter were on board the helicopter. It had picked up the woman in the mountainous Santa Fe Ski area and was lifting off when it dropped off from radio contact about 9:30 p.m. local time, Olson said.

Maybe she's just really hot and the pilot wanted to have a few days in the wilderness with her...
