I was looking at the first day, Ponca to Kyles. I admit I was somewhat buzzed last night from the 3 white russians....I'll look again

There's a pretty good climb out of Steele Creek (but the view of Roark Bluff is worth it). and then again some more climbing before you top out and descend into Kyles but it's not too bad unless your pack weight is ridiculous.

Squirrel season starts Sept. 5th in Arkansas. http://www.agfc.com/hunting/huntingseasons.aspx
You can hunt in the Buffalo river area.
The squirrels and rabbits will still have ticks and fleas in early October.

Hey All,

Here's a very good trail description. There are a couple hills, but that's why they call it backpacking.

Yeah, after looking at the map soberly, it doesn't look at that bad,,,like you say it's backpacking.

Randall , I'll bring my wrist rocket...in case we get jumped by some wacked out rabbits...

It sure is cool here this weekend, summer is loosing it's grip. It's making me think about the fall hike. I'm going to get some new boots today

We have a shuttle worked out to leave one vehicle at Pruitt and take the other to Ponca.

I need to know who is joining us on Friday night other than NGB. I am planning on spending Friday night at or near the campground so those arriving late will have a well defined rally point.

As of right now,I think we're gonna drive over Fri morning and hike the 1st leg, so we'll be there Fri night...me and BuffaloBabe that is.

I know you said you have room for 2 to shuttle back to Ponca. Have those spots been claimed yet? We could get our car shuttled to if we need to.

Hillbilly, Are you shuttling? When are you planning on joining the hike?

Strat. What about meeting at Dixon Ford Thursday night. That is fairly close for both of us.

I meant work out a shuttle. Coastie lives 10 min. from Pruitt

How about Ozark Campground on Thursday?

We can leae a vehicle in Pruitt and take the other back to Ponca. I can shuttle 5 and gear in my truck.

Those are both great plans...Is Coastie going to make this trip Hillbilly? Dixon Ford is a cool place to camp.
Chili, that's would work also, I'm totally open to whatever. If we did Ozark, it would be much closer to Jasper for breakfast. FOr that matter, we could camp at Pruit and then tere'd be less jostling on Friday morning.

Ya'll call it, I'm easy...

Posting fer Chin Wrong thread again!!
Right now it looks to me that we (me, Mugsy, and Athena) will be meeting up with the group on Friday morning. Sa will drop us off and head back to Branson. She will then pick us up on Sunday.

I didn't ask before but I assume this is a good trip for Mugsy.(Mugsy is a dog!!)

I will not be able to get Randall his pack until Friday moring. He will need to travel with his pack or at least enough gear to get him by until Friday morn.”

I haven't looked at the regs, but this is Owl's backyard. If he says dogs aren't allowed on trails in the park, then I would take it as gospel.

I am guessing that we either broke the law or there has been a change since BuffaloPalooza I.

Below is a link to the park's FAQ page regarding dogs. See the last paragraph.

http://www.nps.gov/buff/faqs.htm

I hiked the BRT several years ago over Thanksgiving weekend with a guy I didn't know well and he brought a dog. The dog was well-behaved and fine on the trail and I had no problem with it. We finished the hike at Steel Creek and encountered a Ranger who was none too happy that we'd ignored all the "no pets" markings on the trail signs. He didn't give the guy a citation but made it clear he could.

As I understand it, dogs are allowed on leash in the campgrounds and on the river but not on the trails. Also dogs can be used for hunting during certain times.

Dang Dogs?
I just had my palm ripped open three weeks ago on the Buffalo River by a dog. Missed a float trip that weekend and a weeklong backpacking trip this week in Idaho because of a dang dog. I'm no longer neutral on dogs on the trail or river as you might suspect.

StratdOOD are you Stratdewd or do you just happen to run around with Buffalobabe too? :-)

Jerbear and I have talked about meeting up with you guys Saturday if we can work out the logistics. I can't be there any earlier for there is a Ozark Rendevous on the Current River in Missouri that I have committed to that week.

A big HEY to Owl & Chilli!
