One man tent
What would be a fairly inexpensive and light one man tent? I am looking for a tent for use by scouts, when we have an odd number of scouts for our present 2 man tents. Ideas would be appreciated, and places to get them cheap if you have some ideas. What would be a maximum weight to set for a small kid to carry?? Thanks! Bob

Look at the lineup of tents made by alps mountaineering. They have a program for scouts where you can get good great gear for a troop at a solid discount. Our troop buys tents for the boys which they own their entire time in the troop... Their tent. The troop actually does not own any tents. The boys share tents and take turns bringing their shared shelter. Older scouts pair up with younger scouts that do not have a tent. Anyway, the tents are of good quality (esp the upgraded models) and the 1 man variants (which our varsity team uses) are reasonable tents. Good luck.

I have a Walrus Zoid one man bivy that I will gladly take 50 bucks for and I'll pay the shipping. I'm not only a hammocker now but I'm cluastraphobic and can't sleep in it!

I love my Eureka Mountain Pass 1XT! It was around $100 as I recall and worth every penny.

the scouts were pretty hard on the tents UNTIL they actually owned them. then they took amazing care of the tents. imagine that!

Eureka Spitfire - prolly easier to set up than the others mentioned.

Have never thrown up the spitfire but the microlight is an easy <3min setup.

Wait are we talking about a tent for BACKPACKING? There may be a forum for that kind of thing out there somewhere...but this aint it.

sleeps 1 but they make a 2 and 3 person version as well.

for the solo tent it weighs just under 4 lbs... $149 -but- it costs a lot less with the scoutdirect program. your troop has to register to get the discounts.

here are the rest of their lightweight tents

the targus (below) is the one our troop uses. the troop does not backpack so they have heavier tents. this is the "outfitter" version of the tent that weighs more but has huge upgraded zippers, snaps, poles and a thicker floor material. they have held up well with all the abuse scouts put the tents through, but now that they own their own tents they get taken care of properly (aired out after trips, cleaned, all parts back in bags, etc).

$224 for the upgraded 2-person tent but again they cost a lot less with the scoutdirect program.
