Fridge, hey-ull yes!” 4:13:46 AM 10/19/09 “Looking into have a MacCat tarp special order made for us. 12x15 cat cut with sleeve pockets for walking sticks so we can set this up above tree line. Spin UL fabric! Lighter than silnylon and stronger. E mailed Brain MacMillin owner of OES (outdoor equipement supplier) Earlier this year HOI had me order him one while on the AT....” 3:15:24 PM 10/19/09 “A couple weeks ago i was conversing with a REI manager in Maryland about Bear spray. She advised me they may not have enough Bear spray in stock for a group our size, so all who do plan on using Bear spray may want to go ahead and purchase a couple weeks ahead and have it shipped to the Anchorage store. They will hold for a week. Same price and shipping will be FREE. I'll e mail everyone a month out to remind. Remember you cannot carry Bear spray on the Airplane or in checked baggage. REI STORE / 907- 272-4565 1200 W Northern Lights Blvd,,Anchorage, AK 99503” 3:44:28 PM 10/19/09 “We will be using 4 Radios...Any one who has a walkie talkie that has GMRS and privacy codes and want to bring with you please do. I will send you the exact Frequency 1 week from our departure to Anchorage. They work really well in Alaska and are an asset to our team.” 4:29:24 PM 10/19/09 “Fridge Great idea about the bear spray.” 5:30:52 PM 10/19/09 “posted on another thread... i have 2 gmrs radios, midland w 26 mile range. you or others are welcome to borrow them. i won't be carrying one.” 6:07:43 PM 10/19/09 “re the tarp... spin tarps are my favorite -but- having used one for years for a personal shelter i can tell you their ONE drawback. they are VERY LOUD in the wind. really loud. think snare drum loud... last edited: 10/19/09 6:12:16 PM” 6:11:38 PM 10/19/09 “Yea I know they are loud but thinking a large tarp and weight this would be the way to go.” 2:58:43 AM 10/20/09 “Is it loud enough to keep the bears away or attract them?” 5:13:01 AM 10/20/09 “Well, since I presume there is a good chance of rain and we won't be cooking or eating in camp, a tarp set away from camp makes sense. I mentioned this to fridge a few weeks ago. So I guess it would be part of keeping bears out of camp. If we get a lot of rain it will be very loud That fabric is plastic like. Sort of a snare drum sound. I bring ear plugs when I tarp camp with my spin tarp.” 6:29:02 AM 10/20/09 “We used a Granite Gear whitelightning set up with Trek poles and worked very well. Looking at a new tarp 12x15 is BIG and will accomodate several at a time for cooking etc,.....if it's raining. last edited: 10/20/09 3:26:27 PM” 3:19:49 PM 10/20/09 “Re the bear spray. Couldn't we do a group order and have them shipped to our bush pilot? I am sure they would not mind. Just an idea.” 3:31:50 PM 10/20/09 “Shipping will be FREE if sent to REI and shipment to Kirk will be expesive with that type of shipment. Since we all will need to pick up fuel at REI seems easy to go ahead and pick up Bear spray there too. Yogisan???/ Your sat phone....will you get a link there? Do you have limited coverage in a certain area within the lower 48? Or do you have GLOBAL LIKE ME!” 3:41:21 PM 10/20/09 “well i have no idea what shipping will be but to 100% know it's where it's supposed to be and in the right quantity might be worth it. i did not know iridium offered anything other than global service. anyway, that's what i have. my wife used it in africa a few weeks ago. zero problems.” 5:11:49 PM 10/20/09 “Sounds good Yogisan....are you sure she went to Africa? Just kiddin... REI will be a safe bet for having our product and if Kirk has to fly to another air strip (iffin we cannot cross 3 streams on our way to Nabesna) he doesn't have to contend with bringing us our BOX of WEAPONS.” 5:25:44 PM 10/20/09 “Ok By the way, I didn't read your post about how you were gonna use the radios until yesterday. Missed it. Sorry for sayin I would not carry a radio. I did not understand the plan. As far as my wife in Africa goes... My credit card is proof enough she was there... :)” 4:46:05 AM 10/21/09 “BOX OF WEAPONS? Do tell.......” 4:59:54 AM 10/21/09 “Yogisan the credit card does tell. It sure does tell on me every month. MarkO....no weapon for you man! I hear tell you are anti weapon man! I'll carry some heat and you carry da spray. Yo Jackstraw and MarkO I have your coon thing bone you can make yourself a tooth pick with. I can either mail it to you or bring with me next trip we hit.” 2:35:42 PM 10/21/09 “Coon thang bone???? LOL Hey I got my plane ticket! I'll mail ya the info Fridge.” 4:14:42 AM 10/22/09 “Anti-weapon my arse!! Just 'cause I don't own any don't mean I don't know how. I could teach these suckers how to operate an M-60 machine gun. Hey Fridgy, you can be my A-Gunner. The women can be ammo-bearers........ We'll show those bears and moosies.” 4:20:09 AM 10/22/09 “Ammo bearers?? Ammo bearers?? Are you NUTZ??? Eat my dust!!! You can be MY ammo bearer!!!” 8:38:29 AM 10/22/09 “I support the right to arm bears.” 8:53:18 AM 10/22/09 “Are you NUTZ??? That's beside the point. Do you think you could handle the Sixty, darlin'?” 9:02:33 AM 10/22/09 “60, 80 whatever it takes!!! LOL (10 pts if you can name the reference)” 9:58:50 AM 10/22/09 “M-60 is a crew-served, gas-operated, fully automatic squad machine gun. M-80???? No points for me.” 12:03:59 PM 10/22/09 “Remember the movie with Michael Keaton when his wife goes to work and he stays home and says he's rewiring the house, he tells his wife's boss "Yeah, 110, 120 whatever it takes" I know obscure reference. Mr. Mom!” 2:33:19 PM 10/22/09 “MarkO hows about a M90 and those M203's” 3:23:09 PM 10/22/09 “Working on a detailed trip plan with coordinates. Will make 3 different plans as each one will be determined by weather and conditions beyond our control. Give me through the weekend and I'll have it posted. I have been quite busy talking to a Bush Pilot who was a guide all over this area and giving me detailed info on each route.” 3:40:41 PM 10/22/09 “Excellent!” 3:56:28 PM 10/22/09 “I hope no body take offense that several of us past explorers have named a peak due to obvious reasons.....Breast KNOB is one and other will be told when we are there.” 4:41:45 PM 10/22/09 USED NEOAIR REG 4 SALE “Used Neoair regular 20x72 14 oz on sale at Amazon.com FYI” 6:09:40 PM 10/22/09 “Neoair is what I'll be using.” 2:47:01 AM 10/23/09 “You talkin about Nipple Hill???” 4:24:19 AM 10/23/09 “What's with all these AK Expedition 2010 posts? You guys all tryin to communicate and be prepared or somethin?:)” 5:43:58 AM 10/23/09 “Hey Spam you got it......We will be feeling our way up to this nipple.” 2:26:08 PM 10/23/09 “We have 3 trip plans set. Two are same route with different mileage each day, 26.2 miles total. Third plan is a totally different route with less mileage, 17 miles total. I'll have trip details ready to e mail to all members by Saturday evening. The 26.2 mile route will be on good solid ground for approx 19 miles with 3.2 miles on some elevation gains and remaining dealing with stream crossing with Bog Tussock. 17 mile plan will be approx 14 miles solid ground with 3 miles on Tussock and Bog fields” 2:38:49 PM 10/23/09 “Ok, I haven't been here for a while--AMMO BEARERS!! do tell! FYI for you weenies, I'm bringing a flame thrower. Carry your own ammo.” 1:17:12 AM 10/24/09 “You won't really need a flame thrower with MarkO with us.” 3:23:53 AM 10/24/09 “Dat was too easy Fridge....” 5:45:29 AM 10/24/09 “OMG, too early in the morn for this stuff!!! LOL!” 7:55:23 AM 10/24/09 “Easy because it's so true! Every trip the sound of truth!” 8:09:33 AM 10/24/09 “You all have mail....Trip Plans!” 9:45:47 AM 10/24/09 “Thanks!!!” 9:53:58 AM 10/24/09 “Ah, the sound and the fury. When Fridge hears the sound he will furiously scurry but not escape my vengeance. Oh, the humanity!” 10:50:03 AM 10/24/09 “spoken by an honest flame thrower!” 11:07:43 AM 10/24/09 “Is there something wrong with my clock . . . seems to be moving very slowly.” 1:06:43 PM 10/24/09 “You mean calendar, don't you nogranola???” 4:33:09 PM 10/24/09 Jump to Page << prev
