“A couple weeks ago i was conversing with a REI manager in Maryland about Bear spray. She advised me they may not have enough Bear spray in stock for a group our size, so all who do plan on using Bear spray may want to go ahead and purchase a couple weeks ahead and have it shipped to the Anchorage store. They will hold for a week. Same price and shipping will be FREE. I'll e mail everyone a month out to remind.
Remember you cannot carry Bear spray on the Airplane or in checked baggage.

spin tarps are my favorite -but- having used one for years for a personal shelter i can tell you their ONE drawback. they are VERY LOUD in the wind. really loud. think snare drum loud...

“Well, since I presume there is a good chance of rain and we won't be cooking or eating in camp, a tarp set away from camp makes sense. I mentioned this to fridge a few weeks ago. So I guess it would be part of keeping bears out of camp. If we get a lot of rain it will be very loud That fabric is plastic like. Sort of a snare drum sound. I bring ear plugs when I tarp camp with my spin tarp.”

“We used a Granite Gear whitelightning set up with Trek poles and worked very well. Looking at a new tarp 12x15 is BIG and will accomodate several at a time for cooking etc,.....if it's raining.

i did not know iridium offered anything other than global service. anyway, that's what i have. my wife used it in africa a few weeks ago. zero problems.”

“We have 3 trip plans set. Two are same route with different mileage each day, 26.2 miles total. Third plan is a totally different route with less mileage, 17 miles total.
I'll have trip details ready to e mail to all members by Saturday evening. The 26.2 mile route will be on good solid ground for approx 19 miles with 3.2 miles on some elevation gains and remaining dealing with stream crossing with Bog Tussock. 17 mile plan will be approx 14 miles solid ground with 3 miles on Tussock and Bog fields”
