“I bought a 3d topo map software for 2,800 bucks that has every state. I have been looking at them almost every day. I also have downloaded and printed maps of Mt Jarvis area. I'll be using them in AK.”

“I called Rangers there at slana to ask them about those Grizzly assaults on some hunters in the same area we are going to. They informed me a couple days ago the temps had fallen to 14 and had already had there first snow fall and temps today at 30's and clear skies. Those grizzlies are located at Grizzly Lake aparently several. Hell yea!

We will have no problem with a group our size. note.......we will pitch our tents (especially when bear signs are present)in a tight group. This makes us look big so if anyone wishes to pitch outside the tent city go ahead and go for it bait those critters.”

This years trip ended at Tumble creek confluence with the Jacksina creek. This is where we seen the most bear signs and I cannot say it loud enought.Lots of scat and piled high.....Grizzly Lake is approx 2 miles from this exact location.
We did set up camp approx 100 yards away from all this scat and pitched all our tents close to each other making us look big.”

Considering bears' highly developed sense of smell, it may seem logical that they could be attracted to odors associated with menstruation. Studies on this subject are few and inconclusive. If a woman chooses to hike or camp in bear country during menstruation, basic precautions should be taken.
Wear internal tampons, not external pads.
Use only unscented or lightly scented feminine products. Cosmetics, perfumes, and deodorants are unnecessary and may act as an attractant to bears.
Double-bag used tampons in a zipper-lock bag and store the same as garbage.””

1. Setup your tent away from Fridge's tent.
2. Once camp is setup and everyone is near the fire and away from the tents, place open bag of tuna under Fridge's tent.
3. If you hear any screams in the night a griz is at Fridges tent, get your gun, shoot through your tent in that direction.
4. If no screams then grab the evidence before Fridge takes his tent down and use it the next night.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each night.”

The flights I've seen from Phila leave at 7AM and arrive in Anchorage around 2:30PM.

“Fridge, since we're admitting wrongs that happened on your trip I want you to know that one time when I had to go #2 I went and tried but I couldn't crouch down very well because my legs were so tired. I needed something to sit on and there were no logs or rocks around but your bear canister was nearby. I used it as a stool placing one cheek on it, one cheek off...I made sure to roll it around on the ground a bit to get anything off that might have hit it.”

“cocohead/ This we can do when you arrive in Anchorage. REI is approx 10 minutes from the Airport and the grocery store is 10 minutes from REI. Hostel is 20 minutes away from the Airport.
I will be needing everyone's flight number and arrival times. E mail them too me as soon as you know and you cell phone # so we can stay in touch when you arrive. You all should already have my CELL #....”

Sunnydayz, I met MarkO on the car camp in NY years ago. Loved that trip saw umpteen waterfalls all in one day of hiking.

Met Yogi once when he and a crazed group came down to hike the Grand Canyon. (I didn't hike)”
