What are the laws in MO pertaining to riding two abreast?

Buy um a bike path then, Hick.

They can ride abreast when there's no cars behind them. How often do you think the hippies move to single file when a car pops over the hill and has to stand on their brakes to avoid hitting them?

Every person operating a bicycle or motorized bicycle at less than the posted speed or slower than the flow of traffic upon a street or highway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as safe ... Bicyclists may ride abreast when not impeding other vehicles.

That's great, salebored - you can pay for it. I have no beef with bicyclists on relatively safer roads or in town.

But that would be your responsibility if you have a beef with them riding on roads they legally have every right to ride on but on which you can not operate your vehicle safely when there are cyclists present.

Oh and like most bicyclists who think the rules don't apply to them, Nigal is advocating breaking the law in Ohio:

Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable

Hubcap, I can legally drive 40 miles an hour on the Interstate in rush hour traffic in KC (on a good day, it's 70 - 80 bumper to bumper). Does that mean it would be safe and responsible of me to do so?

Impeding other vehicles means not allowing overtaking vehicles to pass in a normal and safe manner in the adjacent lane.

Regardless, I agree that riding single file on twisty, narrow roads is an appropriate thing to do. Drivers need to be in control of their vehicles though in a manner that lets bicyclists ride safely on the roads that they are legally allowed to ride.

you see, that is the key phrase that most motorist do not understand. If the lane width does not allow for an automobile and a bicycle to share it safely, then the bicyclist has the right to ride further into the lane.

fine, then let's look up the rules of the road to see if they define practicable conditions.

I know for a fact that many states list "substandard" or "inadequate lane width" as a condition of impracticable.

Nice in theory, but NOT going to happen in real life, and that's my point. It's not responsible of the bicycler - even if it is legal - to ride there when it's dangerous for everyone. NO ONE is going to drive 25 on the offhand chance a bicylist is going to be just over the next hill. It's already dangerous to do the speed limit due to turns and farm equipment, but farm equipment is MUCH easier to see in advance than bicyclists, and the farm equipment is there for a REASON.

fair enough - here it is for anyone that wants to know

Missouri State Statutes Regarding Bicycles

307.190. Riding To Right, Required For Bicycles And Motorized Bicycles
Every person operating a bicycle or motorized bicycle at less than the posted speed or slower than the flow of traffic upon a street or highway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as safe, exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction, except when making a left turn, when avoiding hazardous conditions, when the lane is too narrow to share with another vehicle or when on a one-way street. Bicyclists may ride abreast when not impeding other vehicles.

I'm sick and tired of people who do things differently than I do wanting the right to continue to do things differently than I do and causing me extremely minor inconvenience as a result. This will not stand! Too many times, I've had to slow down for these people who dare to ride their hippie bicycles on my road. How dare they choose a far cheaper and more environmentally conscious form of transportation while simultaneously getting exercise in the process of said transport? Who are these smug hippie areseholes anyway, acting like they have the right to ride their bikes?

that's you, Mutt, that's what you sound ilke. How many times have you actually felt that your health (or the health of your truck) was actually at risk because of some "hippie" on a bike? Meanwhile, those hippies have to constantly deal with prick drivers blowing by them with little clearance, very literally putting the lives of the cyclists at constant risk.

I don't ride a bike, I dont' even own one - and I can just about promise you that the area I live in has a hell of a lot more cyclists than yours. Yeah, it's kind of inconvenient to need to tap those brakes when you see a couple cyclists riding abreast - to patiently wait maybe 2 seconds for them to get out of the way so you can speed along. But for christ's sakes, you're acting like they're deliberately fvcking with you. Maybe you should step back and take a wider look at the world. They have the legal right of way and what they're doing, though it may inconvenience you some, isn't harming you...

I realize that is seems impractical for motorists to always expect that a bike could be on the road in front of them, but to not do so is taking away the rights of the cyclist. Rights that they have always had. There is a reason why many states have enacted 3-foot passing laws. They are trying to change the expectations of the motorists.

that is seems impractical

It IS impractical and it's NOT going to happen. That's the entitlement mindset I was talking about. They want the world to be the way they think it should, when it's simply not that way at all. Their choice to ride on an unsafe road puts everyone at risk.

How many times have you actually felt that your health (or the health of your truck) was actually at risk because of some "hippie" on a bike?

Several times a year on average.

you're acting like they're deliberately fvcking with you.

They are! If they were actually commuting, I could probably give them a pass. There are PLENTY of roads wide enough and much safer for them to ride on, but OH NO, they have to pick out the more scenic road just for their own pleasure, even though they're putting everyone at unnecessary risk in doing so.

Obama on the GOP and the economy: After they drove the car into the ditch, made it as difficult as possible for us to pull it back, now they want the keys back. No. You can't drive. We don't want to have to go back into the ditch. We just got the car out.

$75 in 2009 ?? Wow! USA Today lists $67,691 in 2008. What a jump!

So a "freeze" is kind of meaningless ...
