“I've been watching the forecast and not liking the rain that is moving in on Friday night. Looks like it may rain/snow/sleet all day Saturday. Anyone know of any cabins in the area we could rent for the night? I can do cold weather camping but I really don't like camping in the cold and rain.”

“I agree stomper, my wife has already backed out from this trip because she has a bad cold right now and doesn't want to risk the cold and rain of next weekend. I still plan on attending unless this forecast doesn't change. Can't see camping all weekend in the rain/sleet/snow.”

“we do have cabins in banner elk about 22 miles away.but this camp is at around 4000 ft so will probably snow if anything I would think.plus we have tarps and plastic and hell jb works at lowes we can build anything as far as shelter plus food plenty of laughter and drinks.the weather will be fine. its gonna be 30 degrees warmer than last yr.spam is govment mule coming?plenty of hills to hike up to keep warm.see ya thur onecamper

“Ok, I am gonna have to bail on this one. Last night it hit 13 here and my bathroom pipes all froze solid. Luckily they did not break, I left the faucets on as they thawed out. I think that kept them from breaking. Anyway, I am gonna have to break into the wall to fix this before it happens again and this weekend is my only chance until mid feb.

Linville Falls elevation is listed as 3350', is the campground higher than that?

Before settling in, I hope to do a short hike not far from the camping spot. But I'm not familiar with the area, so will someone have a suggestion for a nice short hike (c. 3-4 hrs.) that will provide a sampling flavor of the area? Thanks.

i bet he would love to hike with you friday. BUT beware he is a gorge rat and has sharp teeth. he is known to take people hiking and they never come back to camp..
