Is there a mesh top under that fly so we can see the stars? ;)

No, but it has a winter liner which weighs another 200 pounds.

We use that sucker at Assateague Island every August with the kitchen and one end and the Lounge at the other and tables in between.

With the sides rolled up and a good sea breeze its a good place to get out of the sun.

We might as well make this trip a week long with all the food and that tent. We will be in good shape!

Parts of the ridge pole set up are eight feet long. This thing requires a truck, y`all.

You are forgetting how you carry a boat! Lay them on the roof and tie em down.

question
Is it better to sleep on a cot or on an air mattress in cold weather? I have both and wonder which would work better.

Tater and I have talked about this trip. Every year we plan on going and something inevitably prevents it. We are going to try again this year, but I do not think I will be hiking much by then, but I should be walkin :)

No what we regretted was me forgetting the poles to our tent. The big summer tent we borrowed from spam, thanks again spam, could never get warm even with the heater we had. My 15 degree bag was no match for the -4F temp we had that night. The cots did fine though, we had thick mattresses.

I never knew how cold it was until I got up. I have an old Moonstone with a liner to -10. I can take that down to -15 easy.

the camp site is a base camp .park right next to the site...
jb2638

depends on how deep the snow is. I had to park several miles away because my 2-wheel drive van wouldn't make it up a snow covered hill. Everyone else parked inside their tents.

http://tirechain.com/

For this type of use the cables suck...I trashed a set first use 2 years ago. Get the actual chain type.

jb chains are specific to tire size though I suppose with some jerry rigging you could make something work in a pinch. Or are you talking about the strap type?

Crash/ You need to have both wheels in chains. It keeps your pull rotation even.
I will get there very early...if road conditions are icy I can pick you up at the head way of Kistler road. When this trip gets close to happening and you think you are going to have problems all I need to know is what time you expect to arrive? I will be there to bring you in no problem.
Moonshine will be our best advisor on road conditions.
