I'm dreaming about heading deep south in January (too cold up here in PA!), and this trip seems like a nice stop for a few days along the way.

It was a real drill. Fortunately, we were without power for only a few hours Christmas day.

It was an interesting trip to say the least. We didn't even think about taking a day hike.

Looking at long range forecast calls for some very cold weather from New Years until the following weekend. Lets hope for a warm up after that.

I think I have some facebook messages from some of you guys. I can't get on facebook at work, and I don't have internet at home yet. So I apologize for not responding.

I hope there are not too many blowdowns to affect taking a hike or even getting back the road for that matter. Should I bring my chainsaw? heheheheh

went to linville today
went to linville today to see how bad of shape the roads are in. well if you have a 2 wheel drive as of today ,you will not get far with out tire chains.. lots of tree limbs down every place. i made to the camp site in subaru outback . i did slip & slide some . i will post photos on my face book page.
the road could be in much better shape in 2 weeks.
i plan on going there next week.

I am getting interested in this trip and may join. My only problem will be that my four wheel drive is not working. The other problem is that I don't know for sure where to go. I have been to Roan and the Roaring Fork Creek road into Overmoantain Barn. I can get to Linville Falls on Hwy 194/221 but don't have the faintest idea of where to go from there. Fridge you mentioned it is off K. Rd., but where is that? Please be more specific, directions, gps coor. a map or something to guide this lost Tennessee boy where ya'll are talking about. All I have is the Delorme NC atlas to go by.

That should be Kistler Rd. I went back to edit it but was too late. I hope the weather will cooperate with us. BTW I have a 3 room dome tent with cots and a propane tank with a catalytic heater that I will use for this trip if that will work. I am on Facebook, Kerry Sumners for those that don't know it. Everyone still calls me karo.

Spam, what's up ole boy?!!!! Lawng time, too lawng.

Some of you were discussing the I-40 closing situation. I can guarantee you all that I-40 at mile-marker 3 on the NC side will be closed. NC DOT says that more'n likely it's gonna be closed both ways thru sometime in March. I give'em a little call just to be sure.

Thanks for those links, sticks, but that still don't tell me where in Linville the campsite ya'll are going to really is. I have an honest question.....
Where is this campsite and how would a person who is going there for the first time get there???????
