Hey folks! Meanie's back! LittleBlackFeet and I are fed up with work and we've decided that we need some trail time badly! Check the trip description for the low-down. It's 2 weeks away. Oct 9 - 11. This isn't going to be too difficult so if there are some new folks, or anyone just looking for some time away with good company and some peace and quiet this is your trip. I hope to have a good turn out. It's gonna be fun.

Mother pusbusket! I'm flying back from vacation that weekend and I have two RRG trip a couple weeks later. And it's so rare Captain Mean Jack sticks his head up any more. Wish I could make it.

I think I'm hosed for TT trips any more as they are changing my schedule at work and I don't even know what I'm going to be working. I need to get back in solo-mode.

Crap, if it wasn't for my Trap Hills hike next weekend, I'd be joining this Gig. When is peak color down there. Any of you considering the Traps with me next week, currently at 7 person's for Fri-Sun, with 3-4 more joining us on Saturday.

Too late for me to change it, with all that are onboard now. Besides, I think we're going to hit great Fall Color, and have a decent group, and with Eric Hansen as a special overnight guest on Saturday (Outdoor Writer/Author,Hiker,climber.....)

If peak color is later, at RRG, like as in the 1st weekend in November, I might be able to swing, a trip here. If someone plans another hike that is? I'd suspect, that peak color is at the end of Oct? to the beginning of Nov?
I would want to do a backpack style trip though, and hike through the Cliffty Wilderness for sure! Still got my Topo map, I never used.

Estimated Mileage and Elevation per day?
Just wondering what your original hike plan has for mileage and elevation on Sat and Sun. Never been to the RRG - heard good things from others who have, though.

Lowandslow, Without having a better map in front of me, I'm guessing mileage will be approx: Fri - 1.5 Sat - 8-10 depending on water and general group opinion SUN - 6-8 + what ever you wanna do before heading home. I'll be e-mailing stanton district tonight about getting a good map of the area and water conditions, but this will give you a general idea. As far as elevation goes, it's not too serious. Most of the big hills are 300 - 400' and the average being more like 250. This is the foot hills of the Apalachians not Montana. Most hikers who have at least a few miles under their boots will have no trouble with this trip. We will not be in any rush and the most difficult climb will definately be the run up Raven's rock on Friday night.

With all that said, This is a new stretch of trail for me, and there is always a margin for error, but the map I'm using currently doesn't look like it will be very hard.

I sure hope you decide to come I love meeting new people on trips! Good to see some fresh blood in the group.

STOMPY--- WTH?! I was looking fwd to getting a couple jars from you. Maybe we can make a day hike to two lakes or something. Split the distance.

NCT, peak color seems to be mid to late OCT in Southern IN/ Ctrl KY. Maybe we can do something at a later date.

Meangreen - thanks, this helps a lot. This sounds like something I can handle, I just was considering if it was mild enough for my better half - she doesn't have as many miles under her boots as I have. I would love to join you guys, but it's tricky getting away since I just enjoyed a great hike with some buddies a few weeks ago in the Dolly Sods. I'll try to sell the trip with the fall foliage and the fact that it's only 4-5 hrs drive down from where we are in OH. Here's hoping....

it's always at it's peak in the red... sometimes it's on fire... other times it's being chopped down with an axe... or frozen in a sheet of ice.

This will be before the colors peak, but this is the weekend that the GF and I both don't have kids, so it is all that works for us.
I took her to Extreme Outfitter's on Saturday, and got her new Salomon boots, wool-blend socks, convertible nylon pants, and a nylon- blend shirt, along with somme inertia meals, and other odds and ends for the coming trip. Now she's committed! HA! I've got her trapped! LOL!
