Bartlett Mtn and Stony Brook
Lead a hike on Sunday into SGL 57, a favorite place of mine to hike. Nine people came along. We hiked up Bartlett Mtn to a bedrock bald; many cover this mountain, and tunneled through very thick hemlock and spruce forests. We stopped by Big Deer Swamp, a mountain bog along the way. The weather was great.

The foliage was superb with a wide assortment of colors. The thick green of spruce contrasted with magenta ferns and yellow and orange in the trees.

We made our way to a vista, offering a great view to the north and then descended along Stony Brook with boulders and cascades.

This is wild region, the distances seem greater than they are and this hike always takes a lot out of you. It has a lot of diversity and it's a challenge.

Jmitch, nice pictures and looks like a great area to hike.
Yesterday, I hiked the Watres trail. That's the new trail KTA built last summer next to the Pinchot trail. They did a nice job with it. Lots of color up there now, but my camera batteries died so I didn't get any pictures.

It's right off the North line trail maybe a mile from Sassafras hill road. It goes for 5 miles from there and connects again at the Painter creek trail. It follows the property line for a bit, then goes down Panther Creek, up Painter hill, follows the ridgeline around the hill and then goes up Painter creek a short distance until it meets the main trail.
