“Euro was surprised when I re-assured her that we'd be fine for the cold and that the real worry was rain.
Well, Saturday night it was -17C and it's +14C now and pouring rain. There are flooded highways and icy conditions that have caused several deaths.”

“If it happens while we're there, we will have to put our tents on the roof of the lean-to and all squeeze into the LT. Otherwise, once it gets cold (probably that night) our tents will be there till spring.
BTW, in the 150 years of record keeping here there was only one January that did not have at least one major thaw.”

“Yankee Beech and I just returned from a quick trip to the Whites in NH. Stayed 2 nites at Zealand hut and bagged Zealand Mtn.Over 4ft of snow up on top! Sat and Sunday were beautiful, but it warmed up and rained Sunday nite. 10" of snow pack disappeared, It was a slushy snowshoe back out.
