I don’t post much, but I read just about everything posted. I do have computer experience, but I don’t think that matters much.”

really its not for us to name someone up, its a pain in the butt to mod a forum or chat room, and it takes too much time. It makes you too involved and the burnout level is high.

you almost have to set up an alter ego to moderate from, tell noone who is who. post so little under the mod names that pple cant figure out who banned who and who unbanned them later

I think we have a fun thread once in awhile, like the FAIL thread and the Get up thread, and the other threads can degenerate to a point in order for us to banter friendly like, but they are to be pulled back in line in short time by a mod. But no more endless fuego, political, whats for breakfast threads type threads.”

“if any user moderates, a moderated post should be allowed to be sent to demand media for appeal. if the moderator abused their job even once, they are out.

also, if a reported post does break the rules, and its not moderated, same thing.

“I have just mailed DM and told Kennyboy that I would like to see Mutt, Stovie and XL400 on the moderator team. To keep TT politically, socially and morally balanced and to prevent TT turning into Backpackers Boredom.
I think the three should be moderator on an alternating base, for example: Mutt on the even days, Stovie on the odd days and XL as the joker.”

“this thread is way too long for me to read the whole thing but i saw a couple things i strongly agree with

hel has a good point about a current poster being a moderator...what happens when a moderator has to ban a poster or remove a post or any other punishment and then goes on a backpacking trip with that person?...that would be an awkward situation for both

i also agree with an earlier dayhiker post...this place has always been a site for backpackers, not a backpacking site...in other words we all backpack, but just like when we are around a campfire together, the conversations arent just about backpacking…for instance, crash and I are both avid Colts fans so it is fun to pick on Nigal both online and in person for being a bungels fan…I mean come on, the bungels?! even people in cincinnati dont like them

“I think most people who would like a moderator believe there is a minority of people here who require a baby sitter. Turkey Baster seems to be raising his/her hand.

On the whole, I liked Matts minimalist aproach to moderation though I think he got burnt out and overwhelmed at some point and it started to show.

If Tilts "melt down" accomplished anything it was to show there is a point where someone should step in. As much as I like Tilt and have enjoyed him at times, he was the first person I kept on ignore for any period of time (I did it before very briefly, usually to clean up a trashed thread). He owes folks apologies. Others had similar "melt downs" but someone stepped in sooner.
