Suggest a 3 day in GA/NCView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 7 of 7 messages posted.
“Looking for a good 3 day loop for chelle, the pup, and myself. Can be in TN, GA, or NC. Can you still get to max patch from ATL due to i-40? Dogs allowed, 6-8 miles a day, and some elevation.” 12:52:14 AM 11/14/09 “Yes, you should be able to do that. If you have the National Geographic map, it should show enough detail to figure that out.” 6:00:52 AM 11/14/09 “Should be able to make a good 3day loop near Springer using the AT and the Benton Mackaye trail. Pull out your AT maps and take a look.” 7:00:59 AM 11/14/09 “Yes you can get to the Waterville School Road Exit (where the AT crosses under I-40) but ONLY from the Tennessee side. If you dont mind doing around 10 miles per day, you could do the Art Loeb trail (~30 miles). The section through Shining Rock Wilderness is as good as about anywhere in the Southeast and has a couple of peaks above 6K. It would require a shuttle though. There is a nice loop you can do using the AT around Standing Indian. You start out at the Standing Indian Campground run by the USFS off of Old 64. Take the Long Branch Trail up to the AT at Glassine Gap. Head SoBo on the AT over Albert Mountain (with Fire Tower) and Standing Indian Mountain to Deep Gap. At Deep Gap take the Kimsey Creek Trail back to the USFS Campground. Its about 24 miles total and real easy hiking considering you go over two 5000ft peaks. I did this loop last summer and have pics of it on webshots if you want to check it out. Bitpusher is also correct that you should be able to do some sort of loop near Springer using the AT, BMT, or Duncan Ridge Trails, but my map just shows the AT so I cant give you any details.” 7:29:39 AM 11/14/09 “Is there a loop that involves Blood Mountain, the AT and Brasstown Bald? I thought I once saw a loop, or atleast a hike like that.” 6:30:26 PM 11/14/09 “The AT/BM/DR loop is, like, 70 miles. How about Cumberland Island? last edited: 11/15/09 3:21:22 AM” 3:20:47 AM 11/15/09 “No doggies allowed on Cumberland Island. ;P” 5:01:30 AM 11/16/09
