Remember the guy from "High Infidelity" who had a top five list of songs for everything? Well we can post our top five lists of anything. One that I was just thinking about:

Of course, Mick Jagger can belt it out as well.

I was gonna throw Steve Perry in there as well but it`s so hard to understand what he`s saying! I was also torn over Joe Cocker.

I could see Joe Cocker and Mick Jagger in the top 10, but they wouldn`t crack my top 5.

Where would John Lennon fall in this? He really belted on a lot of his solo stuff

Speaking of Janis
This Saturday, I am airing a segment of interiew and music on the Underground Railroad that I did with Sam Andrew on Oct 23rd of this year. Sam is guitarist and co-founder of Big Brother and the Holding Company. He was instrumental in integrating Janis Joplin into the band and helping her adapt to the electrified sounds Big Brother had established in San Francisco, prior to the release of Cheap Thrills. Sam also played the Monterrey Pop Festival behind Janis very famous performance and she had asked him to play Woodstock, but he opted to fly back to California instead. Sam and Janis left the band together and formed the Kozmik Blues Band shortly thereafter. So, join me between two and six PM, as we take a closer look at some of the recollections of those days as well as looking into the current incarnation of the band that includes original members Dave Getz and Peter S. Albin, only at www.hgrnj.org

I wouldn`t even put Mick in the top ten of the Can-Really-Belt-Out-a-Tune list. He might make the top ten of Distinct Rock Voices list but not the top five of that one either. I would put Lennon on a singer list but not a "belt out a tune" list.

I`ll try to boogie with ya Saturday, Stu!

What I was thinking by "belt out a tune" was singing so loud to the point of screaming but still being understood and in tune. And I was thinking rock singers only, but no biggie if they`re not.
