Ditto, I could never do the AT or even as much as you did, I would miss my family too much and worry about them. I commend you for worrying about your wife struggling and going back home to help them.”

“I didn't come home because I missed my family. That was what just added to the difficulty. I came home because it was hot as #&%!$ and I don't do well in the heat and also because I was already feeling tired already whenever I was hiking, especially uphills. And because I was hiking so slow and taking so many breaks that everyone I knew had hiked past me and anyone new I met went ahead of me in only a day or two. And also because I spent all the money I saved and was going to have to borrow against my house to keep hiking. All of that together added up to me just saying to hell with it and not going back out. Actually when I left the trail that day I was just going to get my phone looked at, but then I never arranged for a ride back to the trail.”
