“It seems to me like all the people who actually backpack and post trips and reports on here commend your efforts, as well as your decision to cut the trip short. I for one applaud you for going for it, and also for knowing when it was time to stop. It's a hard thing to do just to get to the point where you're taking your first step on the trail, especially knowing just how far that trail goes and how long you'll be on it. You went for it and I'd say that's a win no matter what happened afterward. Besides, it sounds like you still had a heck of a trip. Most of us won't put in as many bag nights in a year as you just did.”

I've had to call trips short and I can guess to some degree what hyway is going through. Most of us backpackers can. I was giving my support. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt apology if you misread anything I wrote and misinterpreted it as an attack on you. This was surely not meant. The last thing I would want to do is tarnish your reputation with any false accusations.”

“Hiked 7.6 on the AT/LT yesterday and picked up a bag night. Another 22.6 today. I met two AT NOBOS, Sideways and Moonshine - they'd started around when Hyway did, so I asked if they knew him. Yes they said, they had been hiking with him the first few days but hadn't seen him since and had been asking people about him. So I updated them - they were headed to Story Spring shelter last night - nice couple!”

“still too soon I guess. It was a failed attempt, but it did break me out of the rut i was in. Just didn't put me onto anything else. So a different rut I guess lol. I have yet to go back and read my journal.”
