Besides the two visitor centers there are several vendors http://www.nps.gov/biso/planyourvisit/upload/vendor%20map%202009%20with%20listing.pdf last edited: 1/31/10 11:01:12 AM” 11:00:37 AM 1/31/10 “thursday night, im going to camp at/near the leatherwood ford trailhead. if you dont know where that is, take 297 west out of oneida and into the park. after you pass the park hq, and just before you cross the river, is the trailhead. i know there are campsites a few minutes south of the parking area. thats where i intend to be friday morn, we can all meet at the visitor center” 1:14:40 PM 1/31/10 “What's thw plan for the rest of the weekend? I just might have to make my own trip for those peeps. Anybody interested” 1:45:45 AM 2/01/10 “there is no difficulty. i just havent done it yet. im sorry. i thought that after all the many trips ive organized, i would have earned a little faith” 2:50:59 AM 2/01/10 “did no one take behavioral psychology in college? i go for a long time without having given any details, and you guys b!tch, and then when i do start coming out with details, such as settling on a date, and a meeting time and place, you b!tch some more. you must think i liked being b!tched at, and so you reward my good deeds with more b!tching” 2:57:05 AM 2/01/10 “I never went to college, except to party :).” 6:00:51 AM 2/01/10 “Crash can't think past Sunday.......” 10:32:19 AM 2/01/10 “We'll be at the visitor's center by 10 am on Friday morning ready to hike. Crash, I'm assuming you mean Bandy Creek as you will be at Leatherwood the night before? If we can get out of town at a decent hour, we'll see you Thursday night...I know where those campsites are!” 7:11:23 AM 2/02/10 “yes, bandy creek visitor center” 11:49:45 AM 2/02/10 Crash “The Arches are called Twin Arches! I been looking at the map and might have a route for you but, I dont think there is anyway to keep yer feet dry if you wanna see the best parts of the southern unit! See ya later. Randall” 3:54:19 PM 2/02/10 “keep the best parts of your southern unit in your pants, boy-o” 4:56:45 PM 2/02/10 'fellows' ship be damned! “by the 'useful' banter going around can I assume that everyone on this thread knows one another pretty well....? My son and I may see you on the trails. Appreciate the advice on the BndyTrlhd - safe parking closely set to trail loops. I will contact the revered Ranger-gal for most details tomorrow. Thx.” 5:08:19 PM 2/02/10 “Looking forward to it Crash. We went and got map today. It doesn't look like there is a trailhead at the river there for Friday Night is it just not on the map. It is one of the new National Geo Maps. maybe it does not show it.” 8:26:24 PM 2/02/10 “where 297 crosses the big south fork of the cumberland river. it is called leatherwood ford. there are symbols for canoeing, phone, picnic tables, and "th" for trailhead” 8:34:34 PM 2/02/10 dboileau “Sandy Duncan wrote the book, her husband Howard works there too. He has hiked every trail there and knows it like the back of his hand. Either will do.” 2:22:35 AM 2/03/10 “Coyote don't worry there is a trailhead there. It is a major canoe put in/take out with a restroom, information kiosk, etc.” 2:27:02 AM 2/03/10 “From the trip page: This will definitely be the weekend of the 12th. Attila and I will go down Thursday night or Friday morning. We could stay until Monday. This is it? These are the details I am provided to decide whether or not I want to attend this hike? Actually I would love to attend. It is rare that a non-Smokeys hike is organized within my range. No, I am not going to sift through the banter that is the accompanying thread for trip details. No, I am not going to email somebody for trip details. No, I am not waisting my minutes to call someone for trip details. Please update the trip page! Hire a technical writer if neccessary - Lizs comes to mind... last edited: 2/03/10 5:40:01 AM” 5:38:29 AM 2/03/10 “A map in this place is a good idea. Ewker and I did a 3 day loop in here last spring. There were several times when our map came in handy. I think we went in via Laurel Creek or something like that, looped around past Jakes Place, the Arches, Charit Creek Lodge, and back. We had maybe 15 stream crossings which, at that time, weren't too bad but there were definitely spots where you can get feet wet. And, as with Mammoth, you will share some trailage with horses.” 5:47:22 AM 2/03/10 “No, I am not going to ... No, I am not going to... No, I am not ... gojo 8:38:29 AM 2/03/10 fvck it. trip cancelled. im tired of you pissers and moaners” 5:52:39 AM 2/03/10 “oh the drama :D” 6:01:31 AM 2/03/10 GOJO “if you want to go to this, meet at bandy creek visitor center friday the 12th at 10 a.m. the people who have signed up have been on many trips that i have organized, and know i always plan a good route. ask any one of them. ive been busy with school. that is why i have not posted a route, but i have been considering different options” 6:04:41 AM 2/03/10 “oh the drama :D yea, no shlt. wtf? this is almost as bad as the last bsf trip” 6:05:51 AM 2/03/10 “yea, no shlt. wtf? this is almost as bad as the last bsf trip that one turned out great once the whinners went back to the trailhead the next morning. The campsite by Laurel creek was awesome. The first nights campsite was ok once you found it :P” 6:28:54 AM 2/03/10 “i still dont get how ppl did not hear chili and i shouting when we heard everyone else talking at regular volume. weird acoustics in the forest, i guess” 6:34:29 AM 2/03/10 “that second night's campsite was amazing! finding a big, gorgeous swimming hole right next to the campsite on a hot summer days was perfect” 6:37:08 AM 2/03/10 “I never heard you two the 1st time. I passed right by it and hike for another 1/2 mile. If someone else hadn't of turned around I might have kept on going” 6:37:54 AM 2/03/10 << back to Deam Wilderness page
