Now, the first two years of Lincoln's presidency was disastrous..so I can't understand that one at all or the caveat "modern history" and adding Lincoln..

That aside, consider Harry Truman.

This was a guy who didn't expect to be president, it was dropped on him unexpectedly upon FDR's death. Immediately he was confronted with knowledge of the Manhattan project, and dropped two bombs on Japan ending WWII.
He crafted the Marshal plan rebuilding Europe and the Truman doctrine starting the cold war.

He also confronted his own base in an unprecedented railroad strike. He told the strikers if the didn't stop he would enlist them in the military!

He also crafted a 21 point proposed change to Social Security that would become known as the Fair deal.
All this in the first two years of a job he didn't expect to do.

Contrast that with President Obama who wanted this job, during two wars and a tanking economy. None of which has improved, yet he claims to be among the most accomplished Presidents based solely on the actions of others. He is perhaps the least courageous President in American history.”
