Adios - kind of

“with the exception of trip invites, trip reports, and the occasional gear question/review, I'm leaving this site. No joke, no punchline. Sayonara suckers.

It isn't even the ugliness of the fuego threads (to which I've contributed as much as I've taken)... it's more a sort of disconnect with reality I've been experiencing. This, this whole internet world of message boards, facebook, twitter and the like is starting to really erode away at the real world and the real friendships I have and would like to have.

I joined this site thinking "wow, a whole community of backpackers who get together and talk about backpacking stuff." Obviously, that was my mistake and my fault for being so naive. This site is just like the rest of the internet - a handful of substance floating in a sea of crap - and I can't deal with that (before noncon posts his figures on fuego to non-fuego threads, let's look at a comparison of the posts to each). I want something a little more real than a bunch of faceless people doing their best to burn one another down. I, personally - it's my fault and nobody else's. When I have something backpacking or outdoors related to contribute, or when I have a question on something backpacking or outdoors related, I'll pop in... but that's all. And I don't see that being a very frequent thing as I (sadly, devastatingly) don't get to backpack more than a few weeks a year.
