advice on short hikes
I'd like to take my children on a 3 day hike in the eastern sierras where we can camp along the trail and not hike more than 3 miles a day. Does anyone have any advice

make sure your destination includes water features or something else of interest where the kids can let loose

take lots of snacks and no unfamiliar foods. try out camp foods at home so you know what they'll eat

pooping in the woods can be a traumatizing experience

Don't pack their packs too heavy. Don't hike too far each day. Make sure you are kitted out to deal with rain and cold. If you haven't tried out just a shake-down hike for one night or even just car camping, give it a try first.

My experience has been mixed good and bad. My wife would suggest being prepared to sleep with a 2yr old on your chest the whole night so they (the child) remains at some level of comfort and not freaking out.

Knowing the ages would help with the advice.

reads to me like the OP is looking more for advice on specific destinations and trails, not strategy.

maybe cross post your message in the CA forum on summitpost.org for some extra exposure. they have a very active CA group there.

You are right Roam. The OP is not asking about advice for camping with his/her kids. The OP is looking for destination advice, about which I can not give for the eastern sierras. But if you ever want to know about a child that refuses to sleep unless they are firmly planted on your chest, give me a call.
