“The date isn't real yet, just throwing it out there to see if the board worked and if anyone would be interested in a trip.” 3:11:41 PM 6/10/10 “Hell yeah. Maybe the dates will work out.” 7:50:06 PM 6/12/10 “I won't be able to make it but I hope you get to go, dayhiker. I've done the Gauley twice. Get a small (six person) raft if you can, sit up front, and be prepared to get soaked. It's mostly Class V. At the end, you go over 10ft Falls. After you get out, there are some big boulders you can stand on and watch other rafts come through the falls. It's a blast! We went with USA Raft. It's a good company. I don't know which company has blue rafts, but as we stood on the boulders a couple of people shouted, "Here come the blue boats!" Everyone gathered to watch and, sure enough, every one of those blue rafts flipped. A lot of folks went swimming but nobody got hurt. None of our USA Raft boats (red boats) flipped. I've done Section 4 of the Chattooga seven times and Section 3 once. I've always used Wildwater Ltd. They've always had very professional guides. The Chattooga is great but the Gauley is rated the second best whitewater river in the U.S. after the Colorado. I hope you get to go.” 2:39:42 PM 7/20/10 << back to Gauley Rafting page
