I was looking forward to seeing Ya'll. I was gonna work tonight and come in around 2 am. But now I gotta work the weekend as well. BAMA” 4:33:43 PM 10/08/10 “Hey everyone I just wanted to take a sec. and say thank you for a great time and some sore legs. I am looking forward to the next time. I still don't have a facebook and I more then likely will not so if you guys could get in touch with me via e-mail that would be great. Shotsonthetable@yahoo.com” 10:24:36 AM 10/10/10 “We're glad you made it. Don't be a stranger and feel free to join in on any of these trips. As soon as we get the pics uploaded, we will send you and email.” 5:45:01 PM 10/10/10 “More later, but it was dry as a powder house in the Wilderness...and crowded too. I have never seen that many people on the trail anywhere in Sipsey. There must have been 50 people camped along 206.” 5:48:35 PM 10/10/10 “Wow, that surprising so many were out with 90 degree highs.” 6:38:11 PM 10/10/10 “We worked up a sweat on the trail. But stomper reported that the Sipsey was cold when she went "swimming".” 6:45:50 PM 10/10/10 “Yep! pretty cold!” 7:40:11 PM 10/10/10 “Shrinkage!” 8:44:38 PM 10/10/10 “I will try to post a trip report tomorrow. Too tired now, drying out the tent and washing some sweaty clothes. Next weekend the highs are supposed to be in the low 70's and low temps in the upper 30's. It was just too hot for me, but I enjoyed the trip and the company of soem new and old tt'ers.” 8:49:14 PM 10/10/10 “sounds like a good time other than the heat. Anyone have pics they will be posting on here (don't do facebook)” 6:10:40 AM 10/11/10 “I only took a few pics, will try to post them in a little while. My card was full, so I didn't take but a few (under 10). Of course Sipsey is always beautiful and the leaves are starting to turn.” 8:17:25 AM 10/11/10 trip report “I got to the trailhead at 1pm on Friday. The sign at the bridge has no parking across the creek, so I parked on the west side. I stopped to read all the warnings on the board at the trailhead. I knew there was a fire warning and a fine of $5000 for individuals but its up to $10,000. for a group and up to 6 mo. in jail, so no fires for us on this trip. Also there are warnings about not going into caves just like we have in TN, because of the white nose bat disease. The creek under the bridge was bone dry so I hoped there was water downstream. On the ride down I noticed water at Kinlock falls so I didn't worry too much. About halfway down the trail, I stopped to talk to a couple hiking with their dog, and precision showed up. We hiked the rest of the way stopping to check out several campsites. I had an idea of where I wanted to stay and we stopped at the campsite just below Needle Eye on the 209 side. After making camp and exploring Needle Eye, we sat around and talked as a few people came by. Shots on the table and his friend came by and we chatted with them about hiking on Sat. We probably crashed about 10 pm without anyone else showing up. At around 11:30 chili, NGB, and stomper came in and set up and we started the snoring fest. Sat morning after breakfast Shots and his friend (sorry I can't remember his name) showed up and we all headed out for the big tree. We ran into lots of hikers all day and after getting to big tree more came in. On the way back to camp, we ran into a youth group out doing trail work. They had saws, pruners, and lopers and were doing a great job. After a long day we sat around the fire ring, (still no fire) even tho other groups incl. a boy scout troop had a fire. We caught up on the latest tt gossip and talked about all of you posers, LOL. We hiked out on Sunday and stopped at Wren for a buffalo burger and went out on our own. It was a great trip as all Sipsey trips are, but the heat almost got to me. Next week the weather will be perfect, heck I might just go back and do it all over.” 8:43:00 AM 10/11/10 “Short version: This night hike turned out way better than the last one I did at Sipsey. (Although I almost had a mutiny with NGB and Stomper when I kept saying "just another quarter mile")” 10:14:11 AM 10/11/10 “precision is the email in your profile correct? if not, send me email and I will send your pic...” 4:41:13 PM 10/11/10 “As usual, I did not post as a yes...turned out I did a State Swap with Cili....He and NGB came to Bama, and I went to Mississippi...spent Thurs/Fri/Sat and Half day Sunday camped on the Mississippi River, went to the PhatWater Kayak Race; 42.5 miles from Grand Gulf to Natchez..... Glad all of you had a good time in the Sipsey...Ya'll come back now Ya Heah?” 7:55:18 AM 10/12/10 “Nice trip ST We are kicking around the possibility of doing the 100 miles from clarksdale to vicksburg on the Mississippi Did you enter the race? How hard were the eddys and currents to handle?” 5:38:27 PM 10/12/10 “I made it back home, everybody. I started to go to Memphis but headed for home instead, stopping in Pensicola at the Naval Air Museum. I had a good time. Thanks everyone for being so cordial. Best of health to you all and let's do it again soon. My email's updated now.” 10:16:06 PM 10/12/10 “Chili...Avoid the Dikes and any barges tied up on the river..they create confused currents...in a race, the 42.5 miles from Grand Gulf to Natchez took between 4 and 5 hours...a few slower paddlers came in at between 6 and 7..... Plan 2 days minimum so you aren't just gunning along...it's the TRIP not the destination..... One other word of caution...the Barge traffic was stopped on the river for the race....when you go, expect a large wake from any passing tows.....after the race, they were beat feeting along three abreast trying to make up the lost time.....” 4:46:28 AM 10/13/10 “Thanks. Supposedly, the 100 miles from Clarksdale to Vicksburg is one of the most scenic of the lower Mississippi. I am also looking at a trip on either the Pearl or the Bogue Chitto for sometime over the winter.” 4:55:56 AM 10/13/10 “Hey Chili..send precision his photo...” 7:35:14 AM 10/13/10 “anyone take any pics they can post on here?” 9:03:31 AM 11/03/10 “I took some, but I can't post them here...” 9:09:38 AM 11/03/10 “when i get home, i will upload them to my shutterfly acct and post a link... last edited: 11/03/10 9:13:43 AM” 9:13:28 AM 11/03/10 “thanks NGB” 9:30:42 AM 11/03/10 “Don't post the nekkid pics” 8:06:45 PM 11/03/10 “spoil sport” 5:07:03 AM 11/04/10 “http://brockmanphotos.shutterfly.com/ Pictures arent the best...no water flowing from falls..but here they are..” 9:52:48 AM 11/04/10 “thanks for the link :D” 1:28:04 PM 11/04/10 “Nice pics, NGB! What kind of tree is that big sucker? That water looks low and stagnant! I love your photo of the fungus roses!” 2:23:53 PM 11/04/10 “Thats the Big Tree...I guess its pretty famous.. the water was stagnant and non moving..and COLD! ahhh...thats what those are...I just thought they were cool...” 3:09:44 PM 11/04/10 << back to Sipsey Wilderness Fall 2010 page
