Minor repair ? for Hennessey HammockView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
“My hammock is 8 years old and in pretty good shape. I've got two questions: 1) The strings on the side of the hammock (which have a great deal of stretch to them) are degrading - one snapped off. What's a good source for substitute material? 2) Second, I've seen some of the newer Hennessey's have little hooks/clips that slide along the main rope of the hammock. Mine never had these - but they seem useful. Is there an easy source for something that would work? (I can probably go to a hardware store and find something that will work - but thought I'd ask in case there is a better solution.)” 1:22:05 PM 7/08/10 “Call Jerbear and he'll make you one out of a paperclip, a medicine bottle cap and some epoxy.. Heck, you got that sweet new tent anyways, forget the hammock” 1:29:27 PM 7/08/10 “I've been thinking about forgetting the hammock - but I'll be hiking the Long Trail without the dog and I think I want to stick with the hammock for solo. I'm still going back and forth on it, though. Might even try both for a stretch and compare (will have my car available about 80 miles into the hike and then reposition to somewhere about 100 miles further south).” 1:33:46 PM 7/08/10 “I can't blame you. It's so light....I've never tried one but always wanted to....” 1:40:36 PM 7/08/10 “I would call the manufacture. I think his name is tom. They will steer you in the right direction yo bear!” 1:58:34 PM 7/08/10 “Repair parts can be had from members of http://www.hammockforums.net/ The side suspension lines can be made from small diameter bungie cord available by the foot from outdoor shops usually in the climbing section/ Try Marine supply stores if you come up empty in the outdoor shops. If all else fails tie the remaining cord into lines made from paracord with the inner cords pulled out. the hooks can be had from the same sources, look around in the Fastex buckle section...” 2:12:50 PM 7/08/10 “Thanks - I think I'll try the manufacturer and the forum rather than look for some immediate gratification from a store near here. Like Woody Allen says: Patience is a virgin.” 2:19:37 PM 7/08/10 “haven't a few tt'ers sent theirs in for minor repairs, and ended up getting new components, or even whole new hammocks for nothing?” 9:03:00 PM 7/08/10 “I sent one in and got the REPAIR for nothing....” 6:28:39 AM 7/09/10 “No need for sending it in just to have them tie a string on. In the end, I called them and they will mail me the stuff I need for five bucks (includes shipping and handling) - fair deal - good outcome - even if it isn't the instant solution.” 9:48:14 AM 7/09/10
