ALASKA BACKPACKING EXPEDITION

“This trip will be for serious Backpackers only. Trip will involve Glacier stream crossings. Possible Glacier traversing. Mileage each day will be more that previous past 2 years on Bog Tussock fields. Muck holes or quick sand areas along the river basin. Possible snow conditions pending our elevation. Talus fields can be more than a mile across and down Scree areas up to 1,200 feet drop. We may need to build an Airstrip to get picked up if we cannot cross our last major stream crossing. This area I have seen from our Bush pilots plane as he was talking me through how and where to do this trip. According to our Bush Pilots brother who is a Master Guide this has only been done by a few in the past 50 years.

This is not the go hit the peak trek or go and look over there scramble. We will need to get to a designated area each day and keep stroking mileage to cover every type of terrain imaginable for a Alpine trek in Alaska. Obstacles will a part of this adventure as we build this trip into a true Expedition.

Please e mail me for specific details as the fine tuning takes place throughout the next several months. I need to have you on my e mail list for you to be officially a part of this team. Global Rescue insurance will be mandatory and I have the details already on cost and coverage for under 200 bucks each.

Arrive in Anchorage August 4Th or 5Th. We depart Anchorage August 6Th and will drive 5 hrs to meet our Bush Pilot. Backpacking 5 long days and picked up August 11 weather permitting or August 12Th. We will be back in Anchorage no later that August 12Th and I plan on leaving Anchorage by Sunday early afternoon August 14Th.


Looking for a few of you who need this sort of Backpacking adventure as I do. I live to Backpack and I live well.

“I am not yet sure which trip would suit me better. I think I prefer a ackpacking trip rather than a base camp trip with day hikes.
I need to know more details about the August trip. How strenous it is, how much milage, how much ascent. It also depends if one or two people might be willing to share gear such as tent, stove and cooking set.
I also like the location of the June trip, around the Nabesna glacier. that sounds pretty cool too.”

I am in the processes of moving my residence to Alaska and have been so busy that for the first time in 11 years I have not been backpacking in a month. I will still be living in Virginia for the next year and will keep my home here at Mt Rogers.”

“Oh boy, I just saw a documentary about Glacier Bay in Alaska. Not a wildlife documentary, but also about country and people who live there.
There are people who were born in Alaska and can not imagine living anywhere else and there are those, who came traveling and then would return to stay in Alaska.
One guy said, those who visit this place will return enlightened. I have been traveling many countries and seen wonderfull places, breathtaking landscapes, but true enlightenment? I am still waiting for enlightenment.”

“Looking at the possible team members and wohaaaa...alot of interested people. I plan on purchasing my round trip tickets in Dec or Jan....I'll let everybody know my status. We do need to have at least 8 people to lock in for this trip to keep the cost down. Please don't purchase your ticket until I know for sure we have 8 people who will commit to this trip. I do have 76 on my e mail list and think we can pull at least 8 and no more than 14 from this list.

I plan on booking the Van and Trailer sometime in November. Hostel has been booked and our Bush Pilot has confirmed we have that area all to ourselves in August. He will not book any other parties for that area.
