Bringing Nikita since she loves the snow.” 10:02:52 PM 11/22/11 9:40:35 AM 11/23/11 “Sandyann aka snowdancer, is that mid Jan.? Nikita, :), something I can spoil and leave for the owner to deal with later.:) Yes, give me the details so I can request time off later if needed if it is other than just the weekend. Meiss Meadows, Carson Spur? Is that different parking than to Lake Winnemucca? Duane” 10:28:50 AM 11/23/11 “Yes. It is the week-end of the 13th. Long week-end. Friday through Monday. Meiss Meadows is off 88 at Carson Pass. Sno Park Parking lot requires permit. If you are traveling west to SF it is on the right hand side. Couple years ago night time temps dropped to 17 below. Daytime only reached six degrees. It was cold but after a certain temp it all feels the same. Our heinekin kegs froze and we tried warming them on the stoves.” 5:50:39 PM 11/23/11 “OK, when the word comes out to where we can request time off, I can put in for that weekend. Four days, what will be the activities? Snow shoeing around? That's where we got stuck all day when we had two feet of snow overnight at Winnemucca. Was Maria (Estela) on that trip where the guy built the igloo? I may just do Friday-Sunday. Duane” 8:20:51 PM 11/23/11 “Anyone heard about any New Year's Eve-New Year's trip? mtnsteve-less Winterfest? I don't care to drive far. Steve nominated that young gal from Oregon, but that may only be thru Facebook, to carry the torch. I'll have to shoot an email to Andy, maybe just a small group. Duane” 8:34:12 PM 11/30/11 “Where ya thinking about heading, Duane. It might be a mite chilly. Better bring a stove. ;) HJ Adventures in Stoving” 10:05:20 AM 12/01/11 “Duane - Last year Steve mentioned having me 'host' the winterfest and bringing up the teepee with 'stove'. I haven't talked to him in a few months so I don't know if this is still an option or not. You may want to contact him. Although I never really paid to close attention to the stove setup as I always just did what he said to do. I think if people are still interested in a Winterfest obviously you could skip the teepee.” 10:45:21 AM 12/01/11 “sandyann, no one has a big tepee like Steve's and a small hassle getting it from him and back, plus worrying about someone elses gear. I guess we would have to use his patched one and not the loaner from his gear maker bud. He must have been teasing that young girl about carrying on the torch. The one from OR not the young girl from CA. :)” 1:00:09 PM 12/01/11 “sandyann, no one has a big tepee like Steve's and a small hassle getting it from him and back, plus worrying about someone elses gear. Sounds nice. :) I've been up there in July and found the place still socked in with snow, so January should be Snow Paradise. :) Sandyann, I hope YOU have a working camera so I can see what kind of fun you all are having. I keep inviting Duane to join the digital age, but ... ;) HJ Adventures in Stoving” 10:44:58 AM 12/02/11 “I post all of my pictures, including Winterfest on Webshots, under user 'Ducsan'. all are public and downloadable. You might even see Duane in one or two.” 3:53:28 PM 12/02/11 “HJ, my digital age got stone aged in the Kern River. :) Duane” 7:20:34 PM 12/02/11 “Sandyann: Cool! Thanks. I'll give 'em a look in the morning. Duane: lol. Also, got your message about the Coleman stove. Looks like we'll be good there. Will reply in detail tomorrow. HJ” 9:53:16 PM 12/02/11 9:32:53 AM 12/03/11 “Apparently Webshots does not allow hot linking. :( Pretty cool shots none-the-less. Love the teepee and woodstove. At one time or another, I believe they said 22 people maybe stayed at least one night and Naz and his lovely bride and baby visited for a few hours. Duane” 11:14:01 AM 12/03/11 3:44:58 PM 12/05/11 “HJ, your presence is required at CCS. Duane” 7:53:54 PM 12/05/11 8:21:33 PM 12/06/11 “Everything ok down there HJ? Duane” 8:35:31 PM 12/06/11 “I asked Estela (Maria) to email mtnsteve a few days ago, as I never get a response back from him. Surprisingly, he replied in a couple days, making sure I had his good email addy. Awaiting further response to an email I sent him regarding Kifaru packs. Duane” 10:53:04 AM 12/08/11 “Hi, Duane, Things are good, but there is a lot up in the air. Christmas? Who has time for that? I will come up for air soon. HJ Adventures in Stoving last edited: 12/08/11 10:56:54 AM” 10:56:17 AM 12/08/11 “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year! Doing nothing the next two weekends or at least nothing planned. Cold up here, but it is that time of year. Take care, Duane” 10:16:22 AM 12/23/11 “Rally nice here at the beach. I need to get a ski day in but can't get time off work.” 7:34:34 AM 12/24/11 “Merry Christmas to you too, Duane. Basically finished the project my boss has been brow beating me for around 10:00 PM last night. Still needs a lot of polishing, but I was able to give him a report with good numbers. No more 0100 and 0200 bed times. Looks like I get to have a Christmas this year after all. And my assistant and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. HJ Adventures in Stoving” 10:21:39 AM 12/24/11 New Year's Eve flu “Recovering from that stuff, have not caught it for quite a few years. Eating finally today after an orange earlier. Neck is killing me too, gotta get it adjusted in a few weeks after Meisse Mdw. Yo! sandyann. :) Duane” 7:04:21 PM 1/01/12 “Duane - It looks like we may end up cancelling the trip to Meiss due to the conditions. Based on the weather pattern there will not be any snow up there by the 13th. We are now discussing going on just a regular backpack trip to Hetch Hetchy or even Lassen. It will also only be the 14th - 16th. I am sorry for the late notice but everyone has been out of town for the holidays. If you are still interested let me know and I will update you on the final destination plan. On a side note - I was backpacking this week-end at Point Reyes with Maria when I came back to camp and found your buddy Andy standing there. He and Greg were also staying at Coast Camp. Small world!” 9:31:19 AM 1/03/12 “Yo! Sandyann! :) I'm starting to think I've run out of buddies to bp with. I figure I'll be back to solo bping in the future, life gets in the way. I have my old stoves, so I'll have to enjoy their company. I would be in for Lassen, Yose is too far, although I do have that Friday off. My neck and what little brain I have has been bugging me since Sunday. (not all the full bottle of wines fault.) Two ocular migraines today. Not a good start to 2012, plus at work, they gave me another CPU, I've had issues all morning with missing shortcuts and software, missing reconfigurations and I don't know what not. Duane” 10:26:48 AM 1/03/12 “Don't give up hope Duane! We are still planning the Meiss trip but if no snow at all we don't want to be at that elevation if we can't tow in the right gear to stay warm. I'll let you know if it is Meiss or Lassen and hope you can still join. That is too bad about the headaches. I am working from home today as I have caught some flu bug and am hoping by staying home one day I will get better. Have you talked to Maria? I know she is planning a car camping trip to Lassen area around Jan 26th.” 11:02:14 AM 1/03/12 “Have not heard from her, still time, she does not always give timely notice. Andy is the same, lets you know Monday, too late then for me, my gear is at home. Duane” 1:06:41 PM 1/03/12 “Duane - I am sorry to say that the Carson pass/Meiss Meadow trip has been changed to Hetch Hetchy. I know you said it is too far but you are absolutely encouraged to join if you can make it. With the conditions up there we decided to go lower where the temps wouldn't be so extreme since we won't be able to tow in the heavier winter gear.” 2:58:28 PM 1/05/12 “Hmm. 120 thru the Park is open isn't it? Three hours to TM down 395, another hour or less to the west entrance. Not too bad. I'll think about that. Where around HH? Just car camping by the dam? email me more details, I still have that Friday off, but I guess I cannot camp anywhere in the Park if I drive down before meeting up. Duane” 4:36:11 PM 1/05/12 “PS, let me know by Sunday AM, I'll be off enjoying the cold locally this Saturday night. Duane” 4:37:38 PM 1/05/12 “I think we will end up at Rancheria Falls, which is where you went with Maria that time, at about 7 miles out. It just depends. We are still working out details as I type. Did you know there is a backpacker camp at the dam? You can only stay one night on either end of a trip. There are bear boxes at each site as well. It is right at the TH parking lot. I will try to have this pinned down before Sunday so you will be able to make a decision.” 6:23:54 PM 1/05/12 “OOO!. Can you ladies make it before dark? Last time we had one broken ankle and one near heat stroke in-between the photography taking. Plus, one ex-Army soldier that screams at snakes.:) That would be good to be able to camp one night by the dam. Yeah, let me know, I'll probably go out with a couple old stoves this weekend, after I go by the Post Office to pick up two more. :) I'll check road conditions. Duane” 7:00:23 PM 1/05/12 “Well, we may be able to go bping soon to the sound of a wolf if not wolves. See this? In the local Bull. http://www.plumasnews.com/mcondon/9015-wandering-gray-wolf-confirmed-to-be-in-lassen-county Duane” 5:12:58 PM 1/13/12 “Camping was nice at the chalet area in Lassen VNP over the weekend. Really nice Saturday, down to a shirt and vest, no wind or breeze, nice campfire in the bar b q that night, sitting around drinking beer etc. Even saw a few friends from where I live, so got to catch up on life. Only got down to 26-27F. At the Sulphur Works, the one bubbling hole was really going for it, never saw it that active before. Duane” 10:06:54 AM 1/30/12 “Hikerduane - Sent you mail with a trip report and some pics.” 7:50:09 PM 2/29/12 “Sandy, got it. Solo trip this weekend from my yard, should be a foot or more of fresh snow. I've had more snow on car camp trips this winter than snow bp trips. Yose in two weeks with Andy and some of his young friends. How did I make the younger crowd? Got a couple more stove cases painted, ready to put them back together. Duane” 8:24:19 PM 2/29/12 “I'm not sure if anyone else is from the socal area (except Toejam, and he'd still have a decent drive to get there) - but... To get back into shape for a big trip I have coming up, I'm going to be hiking Boney Mountain in the Sycamore Canyon area every Sunday afternoon for the next couple months. If anyone's interested, let me know. It's a terrific 9 mile loop with amazing views of the coast.” 9:47:51 AM 3/01/12 “Looks like Sandyann's trip to the Carson Pass was the only real snow trip I had this year, I did get snowed on a few weeks ago when I bped a few miles from home so I could use a couple of my old stoves. Snowed today about 3" after the rain. Off to the Lava Beds for Easter? Duane” 8:52:49 PM 3/31/12 “Back from a couple nights at the Lava Beds Nat'l Monument, waaaaayyy up north here in CA. 7 of us made the trip, including a visior from Chicago, John from England, great time caving and some great views of icicles hanging down from the roof in the next to last cave, some bats. Cool down in there, fair day Saturday. Duane” 10:22:29 AM 4/09/12 “No photos?” 12:20:41 PM 4/09/12 “Who me? My Kern River dunked Canon did ok taking some viewable pics. I can get a link later when Calipidder posts. Check out her blog, that'll be where she links to. Duane” 12:57:11 PM 4/09/12
