Yosemite North Dome Trip

“My son, naviguesser, and I did that hike in reverse last summer. We started at Tioga Pass Road near Snow Creek and paralleled it to the North Rim....awesomest campsite ever! Second day we hiked to North Dome, then continued west along the rim to one of the creeks and camped...awesome bear sighting in the morning. Third day we hiked to Yosemite Falls and down the Yosemite Fall Trail to the valley floor.

I would never hike up the Yosemite Creek Trail in full pack...much more strenuous than I would consider fun.

Have you considered going in reverse? Or keep it in mind if you have trouble getting permits. Here are some pics:

“Hi Phil- I already have four permits and have convinced my young friends this is a physical challenge they can handle. I did give them the option of changing to Tioga Road. We'll start early and take lots of breaks. Please there will be pain medicine waiting at camp. I am sure we'll stop for an extended break at the top of the falls.”

“I've never hiked in California. Toejam is constantly sending invites. This year I could probably swing the dollars but not the hours. Strange how those seem to be inverses.”

Sanyann, I've hiked Granite in Acadia and loved it. I hope to experience the same in Yosemite, but much, much larger!”

“Lots of snow in the upper reaches of the Sierra. In some cases twice as much as last year at the same time.

Those are snow mobiles on top of the bridge.

Going to be a very late spring this year. Best to check with the people in and around where you will be going to see about the conditions of the trail. If snow covered, it is a cross country no trail trip with some time spent trying to keep upright.

“We're going in early Sept so we should be fine. Going up the Yosemite Falls trail to North Dome. I know. Suckers for punishment. Probably end up getting snowed on with my luck.”

“I'm kinda tired of winter trips for now. Winter snow conditions are going to hang around for a long time in the Sierra this year. I'll bet the Vernon Lake - Tiltill Meadow - Rancheria Falls Loop will be impassable for some time to come. Oregon would be a nice trip. Cold though....brrrr.”

“We're camping not bping. Gotta play with all our stoves, fish, socialize. Scout around, never been to where we are to camp. Been thru John Day, Burns in my days at Sprouse.”

“I hiked this in reverse 2 years ago--started at Porcupine Creek--it was a very dry year and i had no water except what I carried until the next day at Yosemite Falls. But-saw stunning sunrise, moonrise, sunset from N.Dome, and had the place all to myself from 4pm to 11am the next day.”

“I hiked up the Upper falls trail and hung out for 4 nights then down snow creek trail full, full pack 46 lbs. Saw a Massuga? rattler and one bear. Very cool area. That was my first hike in the park.Bug were not bad at all some patches of snow. Yo bear! Wish I could join you but I will be in Tetons. Have fun!”
