Cute! I can see supporters carry signs on the road side saying "Honky if you love Herman."

I think some cousin of the fair tax/National Value Added tax that Caina and Huckabee support would be a great idea. Taxing consumption, not production and work would make US products more competitive, increase jobs in the U.S. and help address the trade deficit.

The liberals will never vote for him because they are racist.

True. Cain has succeeded on his own merits. The liberal elite absolutely HATE the idea of blacks being able to succeed on their own without their "help".

It will be interesting to see how they attack Cain. Jon Stuart had already tried but came off looking like a racist snob.

I have several friends and relatives that did exactly that on the last election. They all regret it. I even know Democrats that regret voting for Obama.

Cain is for real. The Tea Party will vote their conscience, based on principles. Like the midterms, they will tip the balance.

Cain's tax would be Swiss Cheese in a week of being law and the money to fund the Black Market Sales Tax Police would outdo the MIC Circus we have in the ME going now.

I think the biggest thing to come out of last night's debate is this:

When he was asked about the fact that his national sales tax would force consumers to pay 9 percent more for milk, bread and beer, he quipped, “I don’t buy beer.”

OK. That statement alone is extremely problematic.

Doesn't any tax force us to pay more no matter what's being taxed?

A 50% sales tax on any government you buy will fix this economy, 50% tax on political donations and 50% on every lobbying penny.

In general Cain's response to the question of his sales tax raising the prices of things has been that corporate taxes and payroll tax also raise the price things. Moving some of the taxes over to sales tax won't increase the prices over what they are now.

I haven't heard him say this, but the biggest argument I see for the U.S. to choose a sales tax would be that it equally affects the prices of everything sold in the U.S. - other taxes affect things made in the U.S. much more than they affect things imported into the U.S.

I think his answer on Social Security and Medicare is that the sales tax would fund them.

I can't claim to have done the math, but I would make the sales tax a little higher and exempt the first (say) 100,000 of income - and say that people making under 80K don't even have to bother filing a tax return.

I see what you mean Ped. A national sales tax would be in effect a value added tax. My biggest problem w/ 999 is my fear that over time it would legislatively evolve into 20-20-20

He's still the man for me though. I knew it the first time I saw him speak at length. I'm not the only as indicated in the polls. People feel him, he genuine....the " real" factor
stratd00d

I'm liking him more and more. He did play it up some with that #&%!$head thing, flipped his race card a time or 2. But I can overlook it, all thangs considered.

You're prolly right tho strat, over time that 999 would go up.

More than anything, I'd like to see our tax code get stupidly simple, and have ppl like ped said, at some fixed income level, not even bother wasting paper, time, and effort. If we could radically simplify our tax code, and cut the IRS by 98%, that would be wonderful.
