While gearing up for my big trip of the year I bought one of the "new, totally reengineered" Camelbak reservoirs. I've had one before and it was reliable - they dominate the market for a reason. So because of my experience and their reputation I gladly spent too much money for the new one and didn't even test it. I used it the first time on a 4-day hike in the Trinity Alps Wilderness.

A mile down the trail I feel water on my butt. It was running out of my pack. The "new, totally reengineered" hose connection was leaking like crazy. The fit is not tight at all. If you hold the reservoir up and squeeze it, the quick disconnect fitting dribbles at a good rate.

I don't know what 3rd world engineer came up with that design. My WalMart reservoir with a threaded hose connection and an o-ring has never leaked. The thing is so sorry I can't believe it ever made it to market.

I need to figure out how to contact the company and give them a piece of my mind.

I need to tell the rest of the story. Camelbak told me to keep the bite valve and send them the bladder. They sent me a new 100 oz. Antidote and I haven't had any problems. It's been my only water container on several backpacking trips.

So it worked out and the new-style bladder is a big improvement over the old one. The company stands by their products.

Okay, so send a link to this thread to Camelbak with a thank you so the NEXT guy gets the same great treatment..let them know that when they do well, it will be publicly acknowledged.

toejam, you get extra points for coming back to report what happened. I just hate when people never come back with the rest of the story! Awesome to know Camelbak stands behind their gear well, too. You can never give to much applause to the companies that do, especially these days.

I have the 70oz bladder. I like that the hose comes off for easy cleaning. it also dries quicker with those arms that come out and hold the mouth open.

I liked those Wal-Mart ones because of the threaded hose...but then the dang hoses deteriorated and leaked all over. I just use bottles. I bought my wife a 3lt platy zip top, kinda heavyish.. but easy to clean.

Cool they stood up for their stuff, you hate to stuff a turd in it and send it back to 'em unless you have to..

platypus
If you want a high quality product that works without question get a platypus hydration system. ive had the the same platys for ten plus years and they still work great. however i wouldn't recommend the zip-top kind. they work with regular two liter soda bottle screw on caps if you loose theirs (which i have before). as a sidebar, i believe a good backpack has a designated place for a hydration system so all the bells a whistles that a camelbak comes with is completely unneeded.
