I already have the permit and am looking for one (maybe 2) more hikers. This is the perfect time of the year for this hike. 9/30: hike down to Indian Garden from South Rim 10/1: hike to Bright Angel (bottom) 10/2: stay at Bright Angel and side dayhike along the Colorado 10/3: hike to Cottonwood 10/4: hike up to North Rim Must stay at listed campgrounds, sorta like Glacier. My understanding is that sites will hold 3 tents comfortably. Food to be stored in lockers at campsites. Bright Angel has a store for snacks and possible meals. Phantom Ranch at Bright Angel is already booked for hot meals. Getting a meal there would be a bonus and not something to plan on. There is a shuttle leaving from the North Rim to the South Rim at 7am on 10/5.” 6:50:04 PM 9/06/11 “This is the first year in a few that I haven't done a rim to rim trip and I miss it terribly - I'd love to sign up for this one but I have a conflicting trip As for the campsites, they'll fit 3 tents comfortably for sure. Cottonwood has very few campsites with adequate shade, so you'll want to make a point to get there early so you can have your pick. And you can also get cold beer at Bright Angel too... best not to leave that important detail out ;-)” 8:26:01 AM 9/07/11 “Thanks for the tip on Cottonwood. Any other tips, must-do side trips, etc.?” 9:57:27 AM 9/07/11 “there's a waterfall between Bright Angel and Cottonwood - I can't think of the name but it's a clearly marked trail branching off from the main trail - it's well worth the side trip. I think it's maybe a half-mile round trip to it so it isn't too far out of the way... Also, the first night at Indian Garden, I'd recommend grabbing a headlamp and heading out to Plateau Point for the sunset - gorgeous!” 10:41:22 AM 9/07/11 “at Bright Angel, I'd recommend a dip in the Colorado if the weather's warm - the river is fast and cold, and there are pretty rough rapids just around the bend (so don't go in too far) - but there's a sandy beach on the north bank between the two bridges where the water eddies into some calm spots” 11:02:18 AM 9/07/11 “Thanks again. I'm bringing my good (read heavy) camera equipment with me. I'll be set up for time lapse for such events.” 11:03:51 AM 9/07/11 “awesome, I look forward to seeing the pics” 11:28:26 AM 9/07/11 “Sounds like a great trip, Chin. Enjoy!” 5:40:55 AM 9/08/11 “wish I could...but its not looking likely. have a great trip Chin! HiknMachine whats your email addres? mines on my profile email me..later” 8:22:36 AM 9/10/11 “I made this trip in reverse in 2007. http://outdoors.webshots.com/slideshow/561061855HNoiNr You are going to have a great trip. And you picked the right time of the year to do it. FepsisPormosa is right about those two side trips. The falls are Ribbon Falls. Get on the waiting list for meals at Phantom Ranch. More often than not you will get seated.” 5:38:07 PM 9/12/11 “I'm jealous - you're gonna have a killer trip” 8:51:28 AM 9/13/11 “I'll be off starting that Saturday, supposed to do a two night trip in Yosemite with some of the NorthCA group the second weekend of Oct., up Lyell Fork and then some xc. Have fun Cap'n. Duane” 8:24:03 PM 9/13/11 how much? “how much is the cost>?? any admission fee?” 4:05:57 PM 9/20/11 “I think maybe like 5 bucks to add a name to a permit.” 7:23:15 PM 9/20/11 “I wanna say it was $5 to add a name, plus $5 per person per night...” 9:10:02 AM 9/21/11 “Jealousy is mine!” 9:38:26 AM 9/21/11 << back to Grand Canyon: South Rim to North Rim page
