Mt Rogers Winter Blast 2012View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
“This trip has the potential to be a pulk sled event, (snow shoes or ice crampons). Mt Rogers is known all too well for fierce winds and blustry bitter temps. Plan is to meet up at Grayson Highlands State Park at the Backpackers parking lot by 10 am Jan 13th. Anyone showing up later can hook up with us at Springs Trail camp. Exact details on a route and distance will be determined much later pending weather conditions. This could be a base camp or above tree line backpacking pulk sled trip. Back out early Jan 16th. Test your winter experiences and gear on Mt Rogers above 5000 ft. Past 2 years we have had 40 plus inches of snow with drifts more than 100 inches and wind gusts to 55 mph with temps at minus 10. This year I plan on taking my IGLOO ICE BOX tool building snow walls and an IGLOO. Lets do it southern style FYAO.” 1:43:47 PM 11/05/11 “I may get in on this depends high I feel after my surgery Might have to borrow some gear or rent some” 7:49:13 AM 11/11/11 “I'd love to go on this trip, but it's the weekend before the Linville trip and I won't have enough leave to do both.” 11:24:46 AM 11/11/11 “use sick time hehehe” 12:51:06 PM 11/11/11 will be in the area, we hope ! “My buddy and I have an AT section hike planned starting April 3 from Erwin,TN. hoping to get to Damascus in 10 days weather permitting.
