Wide Winter Backpacking BootsView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 9 of 9 messages posted.
“I have extra wide feet (2E to 4E) and need to get some winter backpacking boots - with a removable liner. All the really good ones I see don't come wide. I've been looking at Kamik's ( http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___15895 ) any thoughts or other ideas?” 6:49:44 PM 11/13/11 “I have three pairs of boots. For normal backpacking I use Walmart's work boots. For other situations I use Walmart's waterproof boots or their insulated boots. If I have to enter water, I use some sort of flip-flops. The insulated boots get my feet quite warm quickly, so I only use them in severe weather conditions.” 7:11:48 AM 11/14/11 7:13:49 AM 11/14/11 “Keen makes wide sizes in a winter boot.” 8:05:06 AM 11/14/11 “Thanks Slim! - how do the Walmart winter boots do with snowshoes or crampons? Rosey - do you know the model. I could find any wide Keen winter boots. Thanks!” 8:21:13 AM 11/14/11 “Check this, Ped. I don't have these, but I have a buddy who has really wide feet and does. He loves them. http://www.rei.com/product/772901/keen-summit-county-winter-boots-mens” 9:18:49 AM 11/14/11 “Thanks - I'll go to REI and try on a pair.” 9:35:46 AM 11/14/11 “pedxing - I have never used snowshoes or crampons. Once I could have used crampons and tried to buy a pair from people coming down from Mt. leConte in GSMNP. No one would part with them. Someone had told me that there was a section of trail with a layer of ice over some boulders and that they had slid down. So when I reached that area I slid up carefully. Another dangerous area had a hand cable attached to the verticle rock on one side of the trail. The trail was the one with the trailhead at Rt. 441 about one mile from the top.” 10:00:56 AM 11/14/11 “Thanks Slim - I'll take a look next time I'm near a Walmart.” 10:28:10 AM 11/14/11
