looking for and guide
Wife and I will be in NYC this Sat. Looking for someone to show us the big Apple? or at least help with routes.

The Tree people (Mapleleaf and Treebeard) are in NYC, but usually pretty busy on weekends. When we try to see them for a meal on a weekend we're there, we're lucky if they can make it.

My wife and I go to NYC from Boston often. We usually take a bus so we don't have to bother with a car. When I have a car there, I usually park along Central Park and leave the car there - otherwise parking can be 30 dollars a day and it can be a hassle getting your car in and out of the garage or lot. Subways and walking are the best ways to get around - get yourself a free map at most subways and any tourist info spots.

The discount coupon websites (groupon, living social, buywithme, etc...) all cover NYC and are worth checking out. The Frommers website (also Fodors, but I prefer rommers) has great info on NYC and ideas for walking tours.

if going via subway get an all day metro card. then you can hop on and off when ever you want.
China Town is a great please to eat. then you walk to Mott street (right across the street) and you are in Little Italy..

Rockafella Center is a wonderful place to go this time of the year. With the big tree and the millions of people :)

so get a subway map...I emailed you my cell if you need ANYTHING! even if you get lost :)

if my plans change I will email you..peace and be safe

If you are up for walking, you can do a nice little walk along Battery Park, visit Wall Street and the World Trade Center site, the piers and a bit of the historic old city near the piers. Walking the whole of the park you see some very nice views east, south and west from Manhattan. It's not too far to walk to Chinatown if you finish by the piers (near the Brooklyn Bridge). If you like to walk from Chinatown to the Village, but you might want to take a subway or taxi to see the Village and Washington Square Park if you have time.

A lot of this is covered on Day 2 of Frommer's itinerary.

oh yea the village is it's own world. great place to sit and have lunch and just people watch!

Hey Slim -I look forward to your trip report (and the one later on Panama).

Wolf (or any of the others else on the thread) - please give me a holler if you head out New England - especially if you are up for some hiking or headed to Beantown.
