“The Perseid meteor showers are going on now...

If you have never seen them, it is definitely worthwhile, so get your arse up early and look to the sky!

Best viewing will be August 12th after the moon sets ~3:30 AM until before dawn. Shooting stars and fireballs should put on quite a show. Also, because of the increase in aerosals from fires in the West, the moon itself should put on a nice display as it sets... the particles illuminate color more vividly, so the moon could appear red or very orange.

Best viewed as far away from city lights as possible. Look to the North-northeast, towards "Perseus".

Go find a nice hilltop meadow, bring a blankie and your honey and have an early (verrrry) picnic breakfast, while you watch the show! ;o)

“I was recently camped(in the past) on top of a 12,000 peak at night as the shower was just starting (I think). No light pollution anywhere. Some of the best shooting starts I have ever seen, the kind that trail across the whole sky -- in green! If you get a chance, definitely check it out!”

Windy, to answer your Q (the other one), I think that the aerosal will still be reflective from your perspective, but I am not sure. The colors should reflect wherever the particles are (East or West).

I wonder if the fires' effects have enhanced your sunrises/sunsets?
