Rio is relatively close the equator; it won't make much of a difference.

Sen. Burris: Bush Cost Us The Olympics
by Publius

Big Government Contributor Dana Loesch has this gem from Sen. Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich):

Senator Rowland Burris of Illinois, the Senator who was appointed to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat, blames George Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016. Burris stated in an interview, shortly after the announcement, that the image of the U. S. has been so tarnished in the last 8 years that, even Barack Obama making an unprecedented pitch for the games could not overcome the hatred the world has for us as a result of George Bush

If Republicans think something might be good for the president, they’re against it — whether or not it’s good for America.

The Obamas' Narcissism on Display
By George Will

WASHINGTON -- In the Niagara of words spoken and written about the Obamas' trip to Copenhagen, too few have been devoted to the words they spoke there. Their separate speeches to the International Olympic Committee were so dreadful, and in such a characteristic way, that they might be symptomatic of something that has serious implications for American governance.

Both Obamas gave heartfelt speeches about ... themselves. Although the working of the committee's mind is murky, it could reasonably have rejected Chicago's bid for the 2016 games on aesthetic grounds -- unless narcissism has suddenly become an Olympic sport.

Both sides are really beyond repair. Again, both of your polarized gangs are dead set on completely destroying Everything left that is good about this country just to deny the other side of getting any credit for at least trying.

You (D)'s & (R)'s are still acting like you have some power to change something and nothing could be further from the truth. You are both tools of BIGBIZ and neither will admit it.

Okay LIBBIES ...ATTENTION LIBBIES...the new "game plan" is that the whole thing in Denmark was...PROFILING.

http://sweetness-light.com/archive/too-much-security-blamed-for-olympic-snub

October 06, 2009

KARACHI – The city of Chicago was denied the hosting rights of 2016 Olympic Games not because it was in any way inferior to other three cities in the race, but due to stringent security regime slapped after 9/11 in the USA, according to reports leaked to the media…

Despite having the support of world’s most powerful ruler, Chicago, the front-runner in the race lost in the first voting only because the 98 members of the IOC were convinced that stringent security measures at USA airports would create unfathomable problems for third world countries…

The moment that upset USA apple cart came during Chicago’s presentation when an IOC member from Pakistan, Syed Shahid Ali, noted that going through US customs can be harrowing for foreigners.

Obama responded that he wanted a Chicago games to offer “a reminder that America at its best is open to the world.”

It was Pakistan’s Syed Shahid Ali who drew the attention of the house to the difficulties that athletes and spectators would face in the USA. During the presentation Syed Shahid Ali noted that going through US Customs can be harrowing experience for foreigners. President Obama’s response to the comment that America was open to the world failed to convince Asian, African and Middle Eastern voters.

Even the French IOC member Guy Drut supported the view of the Pakistan representative of an excess of security. He had complained that he was barred from crossing the lobby of his hotel for security reasons. The city of Copenhagen was closed because of President Barack Obama’s presence…

This is a new one. But it is the first explanation we have heard from an actual IOC member.

We suspect that Mr. Ali meant that some foreigners are subject to being profiled in the US.

Sadly enough, I am inclined to agree.

I think lobbyists are the single worst thing to happen to American politics. If you have the money, you can gain an audience. If you don't, then, well, you can't.

Define "Fair", XL.

It amazes me how that word came to be used in describing a tax. Is it fair to everyone?

Chili, thats probably true, but the only reason the 3rd parties (or whatever all of the minor parties are called as a group) is that they just aren't influential enough to go to teh trouble of controlling. Let any of those groups become a true power party and you will see the same thing happen to them.
