Survival IQ QuizView MessagesRE: Survival IQ Quiz “hmmm...I took my quiz 9/21 in the afternoon and the answer was (d) No pool of water found in the outdoors should be considered a safe source for drinking until it is purified. Their explanation: Even though water found in the outdoors may appear sparkling clean, it could still be contaminated and cause serious illness if it is not purified before human consumption. The cause opf contamination occurs when animals drink from the water in the wild and transfer into it a variety of dangerous intestinal parasites and microorganisms. They must have changed the answer after I took the test and before you took yours, MOM.” 11:50:05 PM 9/23/00 RE: Survival IQ Quiz “I don?t get it. It scored me at 16 but when I went to see the right answers I only got 3 wrong. Blue Ice White Ice, I thought white Ice was glacier ice, oh well I hate the damn ocean any way & I hope to god that I am never in a frozen ocean survival situation. And those meat questions, I did not know that fly thing, & I did not get the smoked with resin wood smoked, green leaf smoked, maggot question, eat the magots was not an option, & magots can eat meat that is too spoiled for human consumption. I guess I don?t have what it takes to be a Rambo.” 8:47:23 PM 9/26/00 RE: Survival IQ Quiz “and do you care?” 9:32:30 PM 9/26/00 What would you do? “Here is another survival quiz. http://www.spicolisbarleybin.com/games/survival.swf I got 12 out of 17. Should have done better. (Cannot vouch for the authenticity).” 10:03:09 PM 3/09/06 “13 of 17 But I am not sure of some of the questions” 10:10:52 PM 3/09/06 “damn...I scored bad. BUT hey I got all of the hiking/desert and storm section correct. That's what counts right? wtf would want to stare into the eyes of a SHARK?? I screwed up big times with the dogs and the sharks...oh and the plane crash. Lets hope I never sit in a crashing plane or get attacked by a dog. I'm def. gonna die.” 10:26:27 PM 3/09/06 “I stopped at "going into a fetal position protect blah blah blah" BS for a dog.” 10:52:30 PM 3/09/06 “Gemini - Remind me never to fly with you. Hike...Yes Fly...No” 2:23:49 AM 3/10/06 “I was sad to see the "scream and cry like a 5 year old girl wasnt a frequent answer".” 4:49:44 AM 3/10/06 “wow 6 out of 17 I am doomed” 5:02:07 AM 3/10/06 “I'm badly maimed for life. I swear they gave me answers I didn't select! I didn't chose anything to do with birds and my answer came back talking about them.” 5:49:39 AM 3/10/06 “12/17 the shark thing got me too. Stare down a shark??? When it opens its mouth, its eyes roll back no?” 6:40:41 AM 3/10/06 “I thought you were supposed to blow the shark up with dynamite. That's what they did in one of the "Jaws" movies.” 6:45:41 AM 3/10/06 “I think it was o2 and a rifle, which is no problem. I often carry my Smith and Wesson when I'm swimming.” 6:48:47 AM 3/10/06 “14/17 I fell for the old tourniquet trick for snakebites. Too many old movies.” 6:56:10 AM 3/10/06 “I fell for that one too, especially when you can buy snakebite kits that include a suction cup, razor blade, and line for a tourniquet. I got 10/17 I didn't do so well on the plane questions as well. I guess it's a good thing I've never flown before.” 7:17:25 AM 3/10/06 “15/17. Shark got me. The rest was easy.” 8:15:23 AM 3/10/06 “oh, I did score 10 out of 17 too. bad, bad, very bad!!” 8:21:54 AM 3/10/06 “Shark got me too on one of them. I figure if you stopped splashing you would be better off.” 8:22:07 AM 3/10/06 “12/17 I also got all the dog ones wrong. But I have been under threat from dog packs on 2 occasions, and did not end up maimed as the quiz suggested. First was a pack of feral dogs while hiking solo. I grabbed handfuls of long grass twisted into a torch and lit when they got real close and chased them with the flame. Then did it again, for about 2 miles until a house with occupants was in sight where the dogs disappeared into the night. Stand still, BS!! they would have eaten me. Second was 2 attack dogs, kept turning so the one behind could not get my legs, and used flat of hand to hit snout/nose when they tried to bite, that was only until the owner called them off, 3-4 minutes maybe.” 8:46:13 AM 3/10/06 “I stopped at "going into a fetal position protect blah blah blah" BS for a dog. +1. Correct answer is OC spray, and if that doesn't work, .45ACP.” 8:55:40 AM 3/10/06 “Years ago I was serving a warrant on a guy in South Carolina. We pulled up to his house and two HUGE Dogs came to the fence barking and snapping. I asked the homeowner to put his dogs up. He looked at me and said<"Hell Boy, you get past the dogs, I will come quietly." So I calmly drew my sidearm, and aimed it at the first dog....the owner came out and surrendered. Sorry with dogs, I face em, and try and cut down the odds.” 9:03:07 AM 3/10/06 “How am I supposed to stare a shark down?” 2:50:16 PM 3/10/06 “12/17, sorry but I am disarming the SOB with a gun at my head! He'll be walking funny for the next 12-15 years! Hopefully he'll have to cell with a huge Bubba, that just LOVES the good ol' U S of A.” 4:37:26 PM 3/10/06 “15/17 I will be trampled by the crowd and drowned in the plane crash but over all not bad !” 4:54:44 PM 3/10/06 “14 I believe the test is faulted in that most people have superior knowledge to the enviroment they live in. I would much rather trust the judgement of the person that is very familiar with sharks, deserts or tornadoes etc. rather then general knowledge. I never go on the ocean even though my wife has gone to Hawaii 8 times & loves the ocean. My siblings, cousins & in-laws have lived there for decades. I would follow their lead. I would pee in the water and then some, coming face-to-face with a shark. Heart attack to follow. My only experience with a tornado (visiting in Nebraska) & all the locals converged under the over passes. I had a knarley jeep decked out for abuse, but NOBODY went into the ditches, so neither did I. I hate to fly but many of my friends have had planes for years. Again, I would probably be with one of them & follow their experienced advice. I do go up out of necesssity, but don't like it. Inevitably, I'm the only one on the job that voices fear of heights, but I'm the one that goes up after the macho's waver.” 5:03:52 PM 3/10/06 “14 out of 17 but a lot of the answers are wrong. For instance, all three of the answers for what to do in a shark attack are right, and any expert will agreee, but they only credit one right answer, and it's the hardest one of the three possibilities to actually do. Also, in the question, it says nothing about "in the sharks mouth," only that you're being attacked. And "stare it down?" WTF? It's not a dog. It's underwater. That makes no sense. I also missed the "ration water in the desert" question. Perhaps you experienced desert hikers can tell me if I'm right about this, but it seems to me that rationing water is a reasonable thing to do if you're stranded, rather than just drinking to your hearts content until it's gone. Hell, I could drink a liter without taking a breath. Also, I disagred with some of the dog ones, even though I know what answer they were looking for. For a smaller person, perhaps curling into a ball, or just standing there make sense, but I can't remember the last time a dog intimidated me. I'd kick the crap out of a mutt that tried to bite me.” 5:25:05 PM 3/10/06 “also missed the "ration water in the desert" question. DocNice 6:25:05 PM 3/10/06 I believe the advice to drink your water is valid. There are many many people that have been found dead of heat exhaustion and/or dehydration, that still had water left. last edited: 3/10/06 8:22:48 PM” 8:22:08 PM 3/10/06 “I think I'll fly with an attack dog. That way if I crash I can let the dog stare down any sharks...problems solved.” 12:24:36 AM 3/11/06 12:09:46 PM 10/19/09
