Lasiks? “Has anyone here done the lasiks eye surgery? I had an appointment set for this month but today I cancelled it. I read an article in The Wall Street Journal about the problems going on in the industry right now, both at the manufacturers and at the retail laser eye centers. That made me nervous, but what really got me was the article discussed the various possible side effects, including one it says it among the most common although I had never heard it before -- severe reduction of night vision!!! Contacts and glasses are a huge pain, but one of the best things about my vision is my superior nightvision. I do not want to risk losing that. Anybody have any personal experience to share? 8-)” 4:23:19 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? “my brother had it done a few months ago and he raves about how great it is...no problems yet, but I don't know about the long term. I can't imagine having to deal with all of that contact lens and glasses stuff. Sooo glad I don't have to. I feel for ya. :o)” 7:41:38 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? “I think Naked Ape had that done a few months ago. Maybe he'll check in after he gets back from the Savage Gulf, TN ECT.” 7:44:31 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? “I had it done before the WSJ article came out. I like it, but that doesn't mean it is risk free or perfect. I was about 20/600 before. If I misplace my glasses I couldn't find them! I had targets of one eye done to 20/40 and the dominant eye to 20/20 so I wouldn't ever have to have reading glasses. I came out 20/30 and 20/15. My reading and daytime vision are great, and nighttime is good enough for driving. But once my eyes stabilize, I'll probably get some glasses just for night driving. There are two reasons why night can be a problem. Glare, which can be a side effect, but is not as bad as radial keratotomy was. Or what they call night myopia. When your pupils dilate in the dark, you lose a pinhole effect that corrects your vision some during the day. That is what I notice. I drove fours hours at night from ABQ to Wolf Creek CO the day after I had it done. I had no problem except reading the small green street signs in town. Would I do it again? Yup. I've worn glasses for over 30 years and now I might need them for night driving? I'll take it!” 7:56:08 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? 7:59:11 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? “My friend shot my brother in they eye with a paintball and he had to go in for some type of eye surgury. I don't know what type it is. It helped his vision in the eye that was shot to go from almost nothing (was only sensitive to light) to a whole lot better. But I don't know if that is the Lasiks or not. I'll ask.” 8:16:23 AM 2/02/01 RE: Lasiks? “Thats whats f-ed up about paintball. I was taught that the only time you'd point a gun at someone was to "deaden" them. Now, we have folks going out on a Saturday afternoon shooting at each other. Kids have them in dorms and shoot around like its some kind of game. And some kid ends up getting one in the eye. Really sucks...” 9:48:37 AM 2/02/01 Wow, DIY 11:14:34 AM 4/11/06 “So, nobody liked this idea, huh?” 9:25:10 AM 4/14/06
